Position Description:
Summary: The Director of Corporate and FoundationRelations is responsible for increasing the visibility of the MDA in the areasof corporate and foundation philanthropy. This role will be responsible for researching, identifying, cultivating,soliciting, and stewarding corporations, corporate foundations, and privatefoundations. S/he will actively engagein working to establish long-term partnerships and strengthen existingrelationships with the corporate and foundation sectors, as well as other keycommunities, that will result in funding for the immediate and long-term goalsof the MDA. Additionally, this role willbe expected to maintain strong communications ties with corporate andfoundation donors and prospects.

Organizational Relationships:
- The Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations reports to the Executive Director of a district office who reports to the Divisional Director, who then reports to the Chief Executive of the Division, and ultimately to MDA’s Chief Revenue Officer in MDA headquarters.
- The Director also works closely with the Vice President for Corporate Engagement on MDA’s National Team, and must work collaboratively with colleagues in Marketing and Communications, Mission, and Human Resources.
- Responsible for increasing the visibility of the Muscular Dystrophy Association in the areas of corporate and foundation philanthropy.
- Research, identify, cultivate, solicit and steward corporations, corporate foundations, and private foundations.
- Actively engage in working to establish long-term partnerships and strengthen existing relationships with the corporate and foundation sectors, as well as with other key communities that will result in funding for the immediate and long-term goals of the MDA through the securing of outright grants, multi-year funding, event underwriting, program support, etc.
- Maintain strong communications ties with corporate and foundation donors and prospects, including developing annual stewardship reports and other recognition vehicles.

- Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive, proactive development plan focused on expanding and enhancing corporate and foundation relationships by directing and coordinating activities related to obtaining corporate and foundation monetary support.
- Identify emerging business leadership and industry trends with a special emphasis on developing high value-exchange corporate alliances and identify, evaluate, cultivate and solicit five- and particularly six figure (and larger) philanthropic commitments to support the mission and goals of the MDA.
- Maintain a rigorous schedule of contacts withcorporate and foundation representatives, creating moves management plansrelated to them, compelling presentations and comprehensive fundraisingproposals.
- Develop corporate and foundation goals and preferences in conjunction with MDA goals. Monitor proposal deadlines, prepare and edit proposals, and manage proposal submissions
- Work closely with all MDA stakeholders, and in particular the Vice President of Corporate Engagement and the Chief Revenue Officer to create opportunities to build awareness among corporate and foundation constituencies in order to build and significantly expand positive fundraising relationships.
- Initiate opportunities for the Chief Revenue Officer, the Vice President for Corporate Engagement, other MDA administrators, and members of MDA’s Board of Directors to interact with corporate and foundation prospects
- Maintain high quality stewardship process for active corporate and foundation prospect and donors. Ensure that stewardship and reporting requirements are met to sustain successful partnerships by maintaining detailed records of solicitation activities.
- Keep all contacts up to date in MDA’s CRM system

- Knowledge of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and techniques, particularly in the area of corporate and foundation fundraising techniques required.
- Demonstrated ability in grant and proposal writing at appropriate levels for varied proposal development.
- Demonstrated knowledge of methods, practices and procedures for obtaining information about the giving programs of corporations and foundations.
- Self-motivation and discipline to regularly set and achieve work goals.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and networking skills with large groups as well as with individuals are essential.
- Ability to maintain a high level of poise and professionalism in all circumstances.
- Ability to initiate and build relationships with prospective corporate and foundation donors, and interact via telephone and in person with institutional representatives.
- Demonstrated ability to take primary responsibility for diverse number of projects and to complete them in a timely manner with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated record of success in generating significant commitments from corporations, foundations.
- A bachelor’s degree, CFRE certification preferred, and a minimum 5 years demonstrated successful corporate and/or foundation fundraising experience
- A master’s degree is preferred.
- Preference will be given to candidates with corporate and/or foundation experience, especially with strong track record of securing sponsorships, writing of proposal and development of a stewardship process following securing of partnerships.
- Incumbent must possess a high level of independence in accomplishing the responsibilities of the position.
- Incumbent must be self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision.
- The variety of tasks makes it necessary for the person in this position to know how to use the appropriate guideline(s) for the circumstance(s).
- Highly literate in Microsoft Office Products ( PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.)
