Who you'll work with

You will work with our McKinsey Academy team in New York. McKinsey Academy is part of Scale-ups and McKinsey New Ventures.

You'll be part of a group of highly motivated entrepreneurs to drive our go-to-market strategy, build client relationships, and ensure successful design and delivery of our client programs.

McKinsey Academy's mission is to accelerate transformations of companies and countries by unlocking the potential of their people. We do this by closely partnering with business and HR leaders to reimagine the approach to developing their leaders and building capabilities across the organization. McKinsey Academy is McKinsey's center of excellence for leadership development and learning. We work closely with McKinsey Client Service Teams (CSTs) and directly with large organizations to identify and develop opportunities. Our offerings include Signature Programs, Custom Programs, Coaching Journeys, and Proprietary Diagnostics. We also have a cutting-edge digital platform, developed in partnership with edX and organizations like Harvard, Stanford, and MIT, to scale leadership development globally.

We work closely with clients to embed our tools, analytics and expertise, and provide on-going support to help them build the capabilities they need to revolutionize how decisions are made

What you'll do:

As a Senior Instructional Designer, you will foster the creation of high quality, impactful blended solutions that are well-calibrated to the needs of single- and multi-client programs. You will lead the creation of learning solutions using a variety of appropriate learning strategies, including interactive instructor-led classroom learning, web-based and virtual classroom training, performance support, and workplace-based learning. You will need to influence key stakeholders and adapt to different roles based on needs of each project, bringing expertise to bear in a variety of ways (from expert advisor to direct development).

In the Senior instructional Designer role, you will apply adult learning principles to recommend design approaches and interactions that most effectively support specific performance objectives. In addition, you will help define learning design best practices and work with client managers to infuse those best practices in all our learning solutions. You will research advances in learning and formulate approaches for sustainable adoption within the McKinsey Academy environment, contributing to Firm-wide learning initiatives to innovate new learning approaches and bring distinctive knowledge to bear on complex learning issues.

You will coach and mentor colleagues on learning design and development, both within and beyond McKinsey Academy team. And you will also work with designers, media practitioners, vendors, and course authors to create and/or configure final course materials, including graphics, audio, video, expert interviews, simulations, and interactivities. You will design and implement effective strategies for measuring the impact of learning solutions/programs.

We are looking for an individual who has deep knowledge of, and a passion for, the art and science of learning, development, and human performance. This person should be entrepreneurial, able to work independently, adept at collaboration and network building, and able to engage and communicate effectively at all levels of the firm.

Qualifications

  • University degree, master's degree preferred
  • 10+ years' experience in curriculum and instructional content development field, ideally in a professional services environment
  • Deep knowledge of learning design and development strategies and processes
  • Superior editing, writing, and critical reasoning skills; outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and presence; high intelligence and ability to quickly grasp range of complex business issues; demonstrated coaching and mentoring skills
