Client Development Advisor - Private Equity & Principal Investors


  • Bachelor's degree; Master's degree is a plus
  • Experience as a senior manager in a top-tier PE transactional advisory business or experience in a transactional services practice-building role within a top-tier PE firm or consulting firm
  • Impeccable track record for entrepreneurship, selfless collaboration and building peer/counselling relationships with senior fund managers and CEOs

You'll work in our office in Paris as part of Private Equity and Principal Investors practice.

McKinsey's Private Equity and Principal Investors (PEPI) practice is the world's leading advisor to the Private Equity and Principal Investor industry. We work with investors of all types: PE firms, distressed debt/credit investors, real estate, and infrastructure firms, as well as the institutional investors these alternative investment managers serve, including pensions, sovereign wealth funds, family offices, and endowments. We serve these clients across the deal cycle, assisting with deal identification, due diligence, and portfolio company operational improvements, as well as on firm-level topics including strategy, governance, and operations. Our practice is deeply integrated into the global firm, serving investors in all geographies, including developed, developing, and "frontier" markets.

What You'll Do

You will work with leadership to build our relationships with PE funds and institutional investors.

In this role, you will help originate new opportunities for McKinsey to serve these clients on strategy, diligence, portfolio companies and exits. You will be responsible for client development, engagement support and knowledge dissemination.

As a Client Development Advisor, you will introduce new clients to the firm and strengthen existing relationships with PE firm executives and teams responsible for transactions and portfolio management. You will support PEPI client development and outreach by preparing and presenting proposals and gathering client feedback. Additionally, you will manage and drive key systems and processes for client development which will include systematic and proficient coverage of our PE clients and portfolio companies, tracking upcoming deals and exits,and identifying and engaging sector experts.

You will spearhead the effort to understand the investment plans and will proactively engage with target clients on relevant investment opportunities that surface. Working with PEPI clients and their PE leads, as well as with the firm's functional and sector experts, you will identify and systematically progress portfolio company engagement opportunities, including post-acquisition ("100-day program"), mid-term and exit preparation support.

Where PE functional expertise is needed (e.g., deal origination, due diligence, PE firm strategy), you will provide your expertise. You will maintain rigorous follow-up of client pipelines to ensure that we are on top of their potential diligence and portfolio support needs. You will develop a deep expertise along the whole investment cycle (strategy, fundraising, due diligence, 100-day planning, portfolio monitoring, exit management) with a focus on supporting client service.

In order to build recognition for our expertise in PEPI circles, you will actively disseminate firm knowledge to clients, colleagues, alumni, industry participants and the press and business community at large. Also, you'll oversee the PEPI Reach and Relevance agenda by developing and delivering client outreach programs to advance the practice's sector, functional, geographic and service line priorities through client events and media channels.

You will help develop the PEPI service line strategy and business plan in collaboration with leadership, and will monitor the current plan to targets. You will re-engineer and optimize due diligence offerings and create offerings to reach new client segments. You will provide information, analyses and advice to the leadership for client development, external reputation building and internal reporting and planning. Lastly, you'll provide transaction and deal advisory support on relevant client engagement
