Analytics Expert - Pharmaceutical and Medical Products Analytics, Target Test
- PhD or equivalent in computer science or other relevant discipline (e.g., machine learning, AI, computational biology, business analytics, etc.)
- 3-5 years of experience with demonstrated success applying advanced analytic methodologies to a real-world business setting, either through a role in industry or an academic partnership
- Direct experience developing and applying advanced statistics and machine learning algorithms to real world problems
- Successful track record of partnering with software engineers to codify and automate analytic approaches into digital tools
- Proficient in database tools (e.g., SQL), multiple programming languages (e.g., R, SAS, SPSS, Python is a nice-to-have), cluster computing environments, visualization tools (e.g., Alteryx, Tableau)
- Experience in the Pharmaceutical, Medical Products, Healthcare industry, and direct experience with major SaaS platforms in the pharma industry a plus (SFDC Salesforce Development Community or Veeva CRM Veeva Vault)
- Management consulting experience a plus
- Software development capabilities a plus
- Front end development experience with GUI/ UI a plus
Who You'll Work With
You will work with the Target Test team in our New York office. Target Test sits within PMP Analytics (Pharmaceutical and Medical Products) and is part of McKinsey Solutions and McKinsey's New Ventures.
Target Test is focused on helping our clients derive and implement advanced business insights from data captured by SaaS (Software as a Service) platforms, with an initial focus on the Veeva Systems suite in the life sciences industry. "Beta" use cases include salesforce optimization and commercial automation tools based on Veeva CRM, and marketing and agency procurement optimization tools based on Veeva Vault.
The PMP Analytics team builds and operates tools that support senior executives in pharma and device manufacturers, for whom evidence-based decision-making and competitive intelligence are paramount. In close partnership with McKinsey's traditional client service teams (CSTs), the PMP Analytics organization works directly with clients across the core functions of Research & Development (R&D); Operations; Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR); Brand and Product Management; and Commercial Operations to build and scale analytical approaches to addressing their most persistent priorities. The offerings are informed both by McKinsey's longstanding client relationships and deep experience in the most successful PMP players, as well as by the data science, product development, and next-generation research methods of newer partners and senior leaders.

What You'll Do
You will oversee the development and deployment of all advanced analytics IP powering Target Test.
This role will have dual responsibilities for supporting the analytics of each Target Test client deployment, and for developing, enhancing, and industrializing the core IP and code base of the solution.
This is a unique opportunity for an individual with an academic background in "big data" analytics to transition into a high-profile role in the business world. Success in this role will help shape McKinsey's external leadership in the next frontier of Big Data.
You will enter this role as a Solution co-founder and over time build and manage a team of analyst fellows to support client engagements at scale. In this role you will oversee (and potentially execute directly) all client-facing analytics, including advanced explanatory and predictive analytics based on SaaS data, working with the Solution Manager and Generalist consultants to translate analytic findings into actionable business insights. You will partner with the Solution Manager to define scope and resourcing for each client engagement, providing support as needed to the data science team to ensure raw SaaS data is appropriately extracted, cleaned, and prepared for analysis. In addition, you will support consulting teams in communicating insights to clients, and partner directly with clients to implement the Target Test platform.
You will develop and codify the analytics "IP" behind the Target Test platform, partnering with internal and external software development teams to build this IP into a code base and execute an automation roadmap for the platform. In addition, this role will oversee the synthesis and publication of sanitized approaches and generalized insights of the Target Test capability, actively participating in conferences, congresses, and professional development forums, staying current in the field of advanced analytics, and driving Target Test reach and relevance thereby building Target Test awareness internally and externally.
