Director, Canadian Tax Compliance & Planning

Overview
Mastercard's best-in-class Global Tax Team ensures compliance with all tax laws and regulations, represents the Company in audits around the globe, supports proper reporting for income taxes under US GAAP (ASC 740) for SEC disclosure, and optimizes responsible tax planning.

The Director, Canadian Tax Compliance and Planning will have primary responsibility for overseeing all aspects of Canadian direct and indirect tax compliance, as well as supporting reporting for income taxes for the Canadian business that will be disclosed in interim and annual SEC reporting. In addition, this person will work closely with the teams in Toronto and Vancouver as the Canadian business continues to grow, maximizing opportunities to leverage tax incentives (such as SR&ED) and tax planning. This individual will also lead the integration of Canadian target companies into the Mastercard group, as well as manage any Canadian tax controversy.

Role
•Ensures timely and accurate filing of all Canadian direct and indirect tax returns
•Leads Tax functional area integration of newly-acquired Canadian businesses into the Mastercard group
•Liaises with the business to advise on tax aspects of new business initiatives, contracts and day-to-day operations.
•Maximizes Canadian tax incentives, tax planning opportunities and tax efficient repatriation of funds
•Proactively reviews Canadian tax law changes, assessing impact to Mastercard and communicating with Senior Management
•Assist in analysis and implementation of appropriate transfer pricing methodologies within the Mastercard group
•Supports acquisitions and strategic investments involving Canadian targets as required
•Coordinates Canadian tax matters with colleagues in Legal, Controllers, Treasury, Operations, as well as external consultants and advisors
•Supports US GAAP tax reporting under ASC 740 for all Canadian subsidiaries that will be used for interim and annual SEC reporting
•Manage Canadian tax controversy as needed
•Participate in global projects as needed
•Travel between the Ethoca and Mastercard offices in Toronto as needed in addition to other travel inclusive of Vancouver BC, Purchase NY will be required (overall travel 15-20%)

All About You
•Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Chartered Professional Accountant preferred. J.D., LLM, MST, MBA helpful.
•Demonstrated experience in Canadian corporate taxation, preferably with Big 4 accounting firms and/or with multinational companies
•M&A due diligence and integration experience preferred
•Knowledge of Canadian GST/HST concepts - preferably with related audit experience
•Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work with people at all levels in the organization.
•Proven ability to rely on experience and judgment to lead and manage complex, concurrent projects in a fast-paced, changing environment with tight deadlines
•Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills
•Strong verbal and written communication skills
