Job Title

Data Engineer - NuData

Mastercard's Enterprise Security Solutions organization develops and delivers world-class security products and services for customers across the globe. NuData Security predicts fraudulent transactions by identifying good users from bad, based on their online behavior. By analyzing over 38 billion behaviors annually, NuData harnesses the power of behavioral and biometric analysis to empower its clients to predict fraud and verify the user behind the device. This allows clients to predict fraud before a critical decision, reduce customer insult, and investigate bad actors efficiently.

We are looking for a Data Engineer to join the team in our Vancouver office. This is a pivotal role, responsible for supporting multiple Data Analysts and Data Scientists, as well as assisting on various data-driven requests across the company. The position involves a wide variety of technical skills, from coding to infrastructure, from data analysis to database management.

Key responsibilities include:
•Creating and maintaining the tooling and infrastructure that enables our Analysts and Data Scientists to work efficiently and effectively.
•Discovering new opportunities for automation and productivity within the group, and implementing those solutions.
•Working with multiple stakeholders across teams to fulfill ad-hoc investigations, including large-scale data extraction, transformation, and analyses.

All About You
Ideally, you're:
•A focused, innovative, and self-sufficient problem solver. You're someone willing to independently and creatively deep-dive into an issue, cut to the heart of a problem and solve it.
•Someone that loves learning. With so many different technical aspects to the role, ideally you're someone undaunted by new challenges, someone who loves constantly learning new things and acquiring new skills.
•You have a grounding of skills across many different technical domains. You have a favorite programming language and are at least familiar with a few others. If needed, you could effectively glue them together. (Our favorite is Python, so bonus marks for experience there.) You have strong experience with SQL and you know your way around the command line.
•An effective communicator. You are able to break down complex ideas and explain them to others, especially to audiences with different skill sets from your own.
•Experienced with Data Analysis & Presentation. You have some grounding in data analysis and/or presentation, and are familiar with the core requirements of such work.
It also helps if you are:
•Experienced in developing solutions to real technical problems. You've successfully set up/maintained data pipelines for the extraction, transformation, and/or loading of large-scale data.
•Very experienced or knowledgeable in any one area. Maybe you have more experience with Database Administration and are a whiz with query optimization. Maybe you were a data analyst who built your own tooling, or maybe a sysadmin who automated everything they could get their hands on. Whatever it is, you have at least some deep technical experience.
•Experienced working with large data sets. You've implemented parallel processing and have dealt with the limitations and challenges of working with terabytes of data.
Bonus Points if:
You have a favorite: Terminal emulator, Shell, Linux Distro, IDE, or HTTP status code.
You have any prior experience with any of the following:
•AWS; specifically Redshift, Kinesis, EMR, S3, Cloud Formation, Data Pipeline, Athena, SageMaker, Glue
•Python, PHP, Javascript, PSQL, regex, Tableau,
•Jenkins, Asgard, Grafana/StatsD, Splunk
•Fraud detection (or outlier detection generally)
