Principal Project Engineer - Burr Ridge, IL, Cleveland, TN, Elizabethtown, PA, Flowery Branch, GA, Chattanooga, TN, Waco, TX

The Principal Project Engineer will be a technical lead for the Controls & IT Team and will be responsible for the development of control systems for automating manufacturing processes and packaging systems and deliver projects to the business that provide a competitive advantage. Controls design includes developing control concepts, program design, functional and equipment specifications, instrumentation selection and operator interface development. The Principal Project Engineer also directs the modification and installation of electrical, control systems, Factory IT, and Digital Plant Technologies through capital projects and site consultant support. This position can be based out of one of the following locations: Burr Ridge, IL, Cleveland, TN, Elizabethtown, PA, Flowery Branch, GA, Chattanooga, TN, Topeka, KS, or Waco, TX.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's Science in Engineering (preferably Electrical Engineering); an advanced degree in Engineering, MBA or PMP certification considered a plus.
  • 5-10 years' experience in an comparable technical position - food, beverage, pharmaceutical or related industry preferable
  • Basic understanding of engineering principals - knowledge of engineering disciplines: Process, Packaging, Electrical, Construction or Computer Services
  • In-depth understanding of functional engineering area of expertise
  • Team skills - high performance team experience

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Develop projects that meet business and segment objectives
  • Drive initiatives that shorten new product and project cycle times
  • Drive initiatives that improve implementation efficiencies as well as operational efficiencies
  • Establish key asset targets for segment and identify technology platforms that should be used in segment
  • Work with R&D and cross functional teams to establish design for manufacturing criteria in assigned segments
  • Drive lean ways of working in the engineering process and as a project deliverable
  • Drive decisions to improve business measurements such as ROTA, FATR etc.
  • Work with Regional Engineering Director, Sr. Regional Engineering Managers, Regional Engineering Managers, Project Managers and key stakeholders to ensure all project implementations are in line with business strategies and targets
