MMC is looking for a leader to help move its US Compliance and Provision functions forward. The Tax Manager will direct and develop a small team of individuals. The Manager will review income tax returns and quarterly tax provisions for accuracy but also with an eye toward process improvement. The Manager will prepare and review analyses and work papers that require broad tax knowledge and experience, direct and review the work of less-experienced staff, and champion the use of the software capabilities of the tax provision and compliance systems. The position requires strong technical and communication skills and experience working within technology-enabled tax environments. The Manager will need to establish and maintain partnerships with our Controllers and business colleagues. The Manager must also develop knowledge of MMC Finance processes, systems, policies, cost allocations, and financial/tax profile of individual legal entities. Finally, we anticipate that the Manager will be asked to work on special projects including M&A and business integrations, process improvement efforts, and ad hoc tax planning.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare/review financial statement reporting of taxes under ASC 740, including deferred taxes, valuation allowances, state taxes, purchase accounting for acquisitions, share-based payments, tax account reconciliations, and SOX internal controls Prepare or review all aspects of federal and state income tax compliance applying tax concepts and knowledge of entities, including state combination, allocation and apportionment, state modifications, net operating losses, and efiling Proactively pursue process improvements in both the compliance and provision areas Delegate effectively to staff to promote cost efficiency and career development Liaise with accounting colleagues and maintain familiarity with accounting processes, systems, and policies Work on special projects and stretch assignments, demonstrating eagerness to self-develop and explore new areas
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Education: College degree focused on finance, tax, and/or accounting, graduate degree in tax or Big 4 experience a plus
Experience: 2+ years of accounting firm experience doing tax compliance and/or tax provision work and then either additional accounting firm experience of an additional 3+ years or 4+years of broad tax experience in large corporate tax compliance and provisions. Demonstrated ability to lead and/or influence a team.
Knowledge and skills:
- Critical thinking and problem solving skills, with initiative and persistence to pursue problems and opportunities
- Strong communication skills, soft skills and leadership skills/potential
- Familiarity with ERP, tax compliance and tax provision software; in particular, prefer experience in Corptax Compliance, OneSource Tax Provision, Tax Data Warehouse, and/or Hyperion/Oracle ERP Suite
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office
