Senior Consulting Clinical Pharmacist

The Senior Pharmacy Clinical Consultant is part of a national team of pharmacy specialists including other pharmacists. This role has several key functions. First, this role provides state of the art guidance regarding the clinical performance to employers regarding the clinical current state of their plan including short and long term strategy development. Second, the Clinical Consultant will interpret current marketplace developments regarding legislative activity, Pharmacy provider activity/programs, new drug introductions and their impact for plan sponsors. Third, Clinical Consultant will also assist with new solution development in concert with other Pharmacy consultants and other Mercer resources. Fourth, the Clinical Consultant will assist with mentoring and developing more junior clinicians in their career development. Last, the Clinical Consultant will support new business development efforts as part of a broad-based consulting team.

To fulfill this role, the Senior Pharmacy Clinical Consultant will:

  • "Directorship" services-Providing plan sponsors with guidance based on the appropriate scope of work regarding all clinical aspects of their pharmacy program
  • Financial guidance-assess prevalence and financial impact of identified clinical interventions, assist plan sponsors in interpreting the Return on Investment (ROI) on identified optional "buy up" clinical services based both on Mercer book of business results and reported provider result, assist Mercer Actuarial and Financial Group (AFG) as well as Managed Pharmacy Practice (MPP) financial analysts with guidance regarding impact of new drug introductions, formulary changes and other clinical developments with a financial impact
  • New Business development support
  • Intellectual Capital development of new solutionsfor our clients. These efforts include both Mercer "in house" developed solutions or "sourced" solutions including a third party
  • Manage pharmacy projects and junior staff in completion of program review, clinical assessments and diagnostics, short and long term clinical strategy development, pharmacy benefit marketing, clinical diagnostic reports, vendor and performance management
  • Establish effective carrier/vendor relationships to serve clients in benefits procurement and administration
  • Leverage Mercer's size and reputation to negotiate highly competitive rates and coverage options from carriers and vendors with procurement support
  • Interact with MPP membersand generalist Mercer Health & Benefits client teams
  • Develop sophisticated benefits design and renewal strategies
  • Effectively communicate Mercer's position on latest industry trends to clients
  • Monitor success of projects in terms of scope, budget, timeliness and client satisfaction
  • Incorporate compliance and professional standards into all work processes, including transparency, peer review and maintaining required licensure
  • People Management-This will vary by consultant, tenure and location
  • Qualifications:
  • Pharm D degree or RPh withadditional experienceand current license
  • 6+ years of experience in pharmacy consulting, PBM clinical management, Pharma employment or other applicable experience
  • Experience identifying, designing, recommending and implementing efficient, innovative business solutions to clients' complex clinical challenges
  • Superior analytical skills, strategic planning, communication, and listening skills
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple and complex tasks in a demanding work environment
  • Proven management skills in leading large, complex projects
