About Adobe Spark

Adobe Spark is a content creation platform that anyone can use (online or from mobile apps) to quickly create impactful digital content (graphics, videos and web pages) for sharing across social and beyond. Spark provides inspirational templates, AI-powered design-intelligence, built in branding guidance, and an ever-growing collection of fresh design ingredients (images, icons, animated stickers) to make the creation of standout content fast, fun and easy.

The Spark team is an entrepreneurial group of passionate storytellers, technology innovators, and change agents. We believe in bringing the power of creativity and design to everyone.

The Challenge

Spark is growing fast! With millions of active users and millions more expected to pour in this year, we are embarking on a high-priority mission to scale multiple aspects of the Spark ecosystem. We must:

  • Modularize the existing system by refactoring key areas into shared components and services to improve developer velocity and system stability (at scale)

  • Formalize APIs to improve test-ability and enable interop with emerging Adobe infrastructure and services

  • Overhaul our growth stack (analytics and experimentation) so that we can more rapidly and more accurately adapt various aspects of the user experience.

What you'll do

  • Lead the architectural analysis of our current platform and define a plan for transforming it into a more scalable, flexible and interoperable system

  • Identify and drive research spikes needed to inform larger architectural decisions

  • Work across team and organizational lines as needed to drive awareness of Spark's technical roadmap and where coordination/support is needed.

  • Work with product leadership to ensure proposed platform work (and its connection to business goals) is well understood.

  • Drive conversations that lead to alignment around architectural priorities and plans

  • Represent Spark's interests on internal architectural working groups

  • Integrate best in class architectural principles and goals into the team culture through reviews, white papers and presentations

What you'll need to succeed

  • 15+ years of software development experience, including extensive experience working across the stack on cloud-native web applications with backend services.

  • 5+ years in a technical lead / architect role

  • Experience with performance optimization and working through high volume scalability issues

  • Expertise in developing REST APIs and API design in general

  • Experience with Splunk or other monitoring/diagnosis tools and services

  • The ability to make complex technical concepts clear to non-engineers through verbal and written communication. Expertise in employing visualizations and diagrams for this purpose.

  • A mature understanding of how engineering fits within the context of product and business objectives. Ability to make sequencing and trade-off decisions in partnership with business leadership.

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
