2017 Intern, Commissioner's Office (August-December)

Overview

The Commissioner’s Office interacts with all the departments of Major League Soccer and MLS Business Ventures. As such, the candidate must have a diverse set of skills (described below) and interests to assist with various tasks, including but not limited to, presentation building, research, letter-writing, memo-writing, and event management.

Responsibilities

Support the Commissioner’s Office with special projects, including but not limited to:.

  • League expansion (application and selection process):
    • Managing communication to and from the expansion groups
    • Managing the expansion timeline which is critical to the League’s expansion plan
    • Tracking all expansion related news which could impact the League and its plans
    • Board meeting prep and correspondence
    • The League holds a minimum of three Board meeting a year which are critically important to the ongoing management and success of League Operations
  • Enterprise-wide strategic planning
  • League’s supporting role in the 2026 United World Cup bid

 

Qualifications

  • Create presentations for meetings with potential owners and investors
    • The League Office frequently hosts potential owners and investors and as such requires the most up to date presentation materials for these meetings
  • Prepare executive team for visits to current and potential MLS markets
    • For such visits, the Executive team needs the most up-to-date information on the market, political dynamics and Club performance when relevant
  • Assist in hosting League Office guests from other leagues, federations, and organizations
  • Manage League Office staff complementary ticket requests and distribution
  • Support executives in preparation for (and possibly during) events (All-Star Game, World Leagues Forum, etc.)

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred
  • Investment banking and consulting internships and/or full-time experience a plus
  • Excellent written and presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational skills; acute attention to detail; a strategic eye for business opportunities
  • Ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of the sports industry and the soccer industry a plus, but not required
  • Multi-lingual a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required: PowerPoint experience is critical
