Join Macquarie's Commodity Trading Team as a Physical Oil Risk Manager. Market risk is concerned with understanding and measuring the impact on the business' performance of adverse moves in the market rates of oil and refined products, while physical risk pertains to the impact of physical holdings and movements. In this role, you will be serving as a partner to each trading desk and to the head of the business. You will report on the business' exposures to market and physical risks as well as the performance of key themes and strategies.
Join Macquarie's Commodity Trading Team as a Physical Oil Risk Manager. Market risk is concerned with understanding and measuring the impact on the business' performance of adverse moves in the market rates of oil and refined products, while physical risk pertains to the impact of physical holdings and movements. In this role, you will be serving as a partner to each trading desk and to the head of the business. You will report on the business' exposures to market and physical risks as well as the performance of key themes and strategies.
Your primary function will be threefold: 1) to monitor and ensure compliance with market risk limits set both by Macquarie's Risk Management Group and the business itself, 2) understanding and reporting on the physical risks in the business, and 3) to utilize data and systems to understand and report on the performance of each of the Physical Oil business's trading desks. Additionally, you will provide support to management and the commercial team on the impact of prospective transactions, particularly in the context of physical risk.
Working across the organization, you'll develop strong interpersonal relationships, integrating with the Commodity Markets & Finance's COO teams, the Risk Management Group, the Business Aligned Compliance team, and the Market Operations Division to assist in ensuring commercial opportunities are realized in adherence with market risk limits and business goals. You'll meet regularly and engage in ongoing communication with trading and business development teams to evaluate the alignment of short- and long-term strategies with both market risk limits and the organization's appetite for physical risk.
You will be relied on for your subject matter expertise and need to remain up to date on the evolution of physical oil and products markets, and the best practices for managing risk in commodities markets.
You will bring to this role:
- a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- a minimum of [7] years' experience in managing risk in physical Crude/Products/NGL trading
- understanding and ability to calculate risk measures such as VaR, cVaR, and stress testing
- understanding of global petroleum markets including market dynamics and typical products
- solid knowledge of the physical petroleum business: nature of market risks (time spread, basis risk etc.), logistics, physical assets (e.g. oil storage).
- strong Financial derivatives understanding
- strong analytical capabilities (including the use of databases and programming) and interpersonal communication skills
- ability to model economics of projects. Work with financial analysis team, as necessary
- strong knowledge of financial commodity markets and products
