As part of the Mechanical Integration Engineering Team, you will be interacting on a daily basis with Lyft’s self-driving system, and the individual components that go into it. You will be a technical contributor with a deep understanding of the technology involved in the Lyft Self-Driving System.

Responsibilities:
  • Support the mechanical platform development of Lyft’s autonomous vehicles
  • Work cross-functionally with Software, Electrical, Operations, and Product teams to rapidly design and build hands on physical proof-of-concept prototypes for technology evaluation
  • Design & build automated test rigs for evaluation and characterization of sensors including but not limited to LiDAR, RADAR, Camera, and INS technologies
  • Design and build integration test benches and test bucks (Low Voltage and High Voltage) to validate mechanical, electrical, and software systems and interfaces
  • Troubleshoot vehicle issues including but not limited to hardware, electrical, and firmware systems
  • Debug autonomous vehicle platforms from the nuts and bolts all the way up to the computer and communication systems
  • Work with relevant cross functional teams to solve complex problems on tight timelines
  • Build and maintain familiarity with Lyft's autonomous vehicles inside and out including latest changes to our systems
  • Understand and stay up-to-speed on complex problems in real-time, escalating to appropriate stakeholders across the organization
  • Work closely with mechanical Design and Operations team to ensure assembly and integration processes are efficient, optimized and documented accurately

Experience & Skills:


  • Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field with at least 2 years of relevant professional experience

  • Strong hands-on experimental ability with prototyping experience

  • Previous Vehicle Integration/Design Experience

  • Effective oral and written communication skills


Nice to have:

  • Experience designing and integrating equipment on an automotive platform

  • Experience with autonomous driving sensors (LiDAR/RADAR/GPS/INS)

  • Experience building products for harsh environments

  • Python experience including data processing & serial communication
