Firmware Engineer, Bikes & Scooters

As a Firmware Engineer, you'll report to the Firmware Manager and will work on our micro mobility ecosystem to provide an enjoyable experience for our customers. You'll also work on developing low level drivers, implementing power management systems and features that provide better visibility to our backend.

  • Collaborate with teams ranging from product to operations to understand and establish requirements

  • Partner with electrical engineering to design and review hardware

  • Perform board bring-up and code debug, resolving issues through software and electrical changes while working within a team

  • Establish best practices for development, test, and deployment. Write well-crafted, well-tested, readable, maintainable code

  • Ensure safety requirements are complete and correct, new designs meet safety requirements, and software implementations meet design specifications

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 15%


  • Experience

    • BS/MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related technical field or relevant work experience

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience

    • Experience bringing a product through an entire production cycle. Hands-on experience in prototype bring-up and debugging, functional verification, and manufacturing support

    • Hardware bringup and characterization through the use of test equipment. Experience with scopes, logic analyzers as well as lab tools (soldering, oscilloscopes, data acquisition, etc.)

    • Schematic review experience with schematic capture, and board layout as a plus

    • Firmware development experience in GNU C/C++ with microcontrollers or driver level embedded processors. Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, shell, bash or batch scripts)

    • Proficient with standard embedded peripherals (I2C, SPI, CAN, UART (RS-485), ADC, timers, etc), and experience working with embedded processors (STM32 and Atmel AVR a plus). Comfortable in a bare metal environment as well as with an RTOS, such as FreeRTOS

    • Familiarity with firmware debug tools (lldb/gdb), serial consoles, JTAG/SWD adapters, bootloaders to support testing validation of hardware

    • Embedded/low-level Java knowledge and familiarity with the Linux kernel is preferred

    • Embedded systems power characterization and optimization

    • Familiarity with NFC protocols such as ISO14443A, ISO14443B

    • Familiarity with NFC encryption libraries

    • Nice to have: 


      • Knowledge of BLE stacks and protocols

      • Database/backend experience with MySql/PhP

      • RF debugging experience
