Advisor Consultant Program - Fall 2019
The Advisor Consultant Program is for early career professionals who are eager to kick-start their careers and gain a broad range of skills necessary for continued success. You’ll be welcomed into a diverse, inclusive 4-year program that empowers its participants, and provides a high level of professional exposure at a very early stage of one’s career. This program teaches you how to build relationships, exposes you to our diverse operations, and builds your understanding of Lord Abbett’s business areas, strategies, clients, and initiatives.
You’ll begin with a comprehensive training program where you’ll gain invaluable experiences focused on client relationship management, consultative sales, and practice management. You’ll then join our Advisor Consultant desk helping to grow our business and to serve our existing clients within a particular region. Throughout the program you’ll receive performance reviews and actionable feedback.
After a minimum of 36 months exceeding expectations as an Advisor Consultant, benefitting from the excellent training and daily client exposure, you will be ready to progress into your next role (representative sample list below) within Lord Abbett based on our business needs and your strengths/professional goals.
Advisor Consultants are responsible for proactively engaging Financial Advisors within a defined geographic territory in an effort to enrich existing relationships, identify cross-selling opportunities, and originate new producers. Advisor Consultants help represent Lord Abbett to our client base and thus go through a rigorous and industry-leading training program which covers investment markets, investment products and presentation skills in addition to sponsorship for Series 7 and 66 licenses. Advisor Consultants work in partnership with an assigned Regional Manager in an ongoing effort to elevate the investment conversation by thoughtfully positioning our products.
We’ll trust you to:
- Proactively contact financial advisors to communicate actionable sales ideas and business-building opportunities
- Partner with one or more Regional Managers to manage and grow an assigned territory
- Articulate a deep knowledge of mutual funds, separately managed accounts, and retirement products
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of all Lord Abbett Market & Product Opportunity Presentations (MPOs)
- Engage with Marketing to execute outbound phone call campaigns
- Understand current market conditions and the potential impact on our investment products
You’ll need to have:
- 0-3 years relevant experience in the financial services industry
- Ability to obtain the Series 7 and 66 licenses within the designated time frame
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- The aptitude to learn and adapt quickly in a rapidly changing environment
- Real ambition to pursue a client-facing career, with a strong interest in relationship management and sales
- Ability to develop client relationships and strategic partnerships
- Bachelor’s degree

The Advisor Services team is responsible for proactively engaging Financial Advisors within a defined geographic territory in an effort to enrich existing relationships, identify cross-selling opportunities, and originate new producers. You would primarily drive all sales in your territory by serving as a proactive relationship manager for your assigned accounts.
The Consultant Relations team proactively engages Investment Consultants in an effort to manage their institutional needs, cultivate new relationships, and enrich existing relationships. You would be responsible for collaborating with internal and external teams to ensure successful engagement and accurate presentation of our strategies to the Investment Consultant community.
Institutional Client Account Management
The Client Account team serves as client advocate internally within the firm and develops a deep understanding of the unique servicing needs of Lord Abbett’s Institutional clients. You would support senior members of the team in assisting with day-day account management.
International Investor Services
The International Investor Services team engages with distribution partners and institutions to enrich and create relationships. You would assist in positioning Lord Abbett investment products as intelligently designed solutions with our Intermediary partnerships.
The Marketing team partners with areas of the business to develop client servicing, marketing, educational content and campaigns for Retail, Institutional and international audiences. You would contribute to the strategic design and development of marketing campaigns that consistently reflect Lord Abbett’s brand and client service standards.
The Product Strategy team is responsible for product development strategies that will support growth and asset retention of the firm’s Retail, Institutional and International businesses. You would work on various aspects of product strategy including positioning products across Lord Abbett’s distribution network, vehicle design and construction, and competitor analysis and pricing.
The Relationship Management team manages the business relationships, research efforts and strategic initiatives relating to Lord Abbett's distribution partners, including broker dealers, private banks, and insurance companies. You would support Relationship Managers in developing new business, asset retention, increasing flows and product/platform placement and sales.
