Manufacturing Engineer / Goleta, CA
This position reports to the Santa Barbara Focalplane facility in Goleta, CA. Understanding the technical details of the Integrated Detector Cooler Assembly (IDCA) product and processes is critical to delivering results that improve the process performance. Works in a team environment to develop, qualify, and implement IDCA process improvements working with design engineering and quality engineering. Supports the daily production needs for rework, training and revised process documentation. Methodical troubleshooting of process issues to drive resolution and understanding of root cause. Also responsible for the coordination with production for performing engineering experiments and implementing process changes and working on introduction of new equipment.

The Locale: Goleta is a city in southern Santa Barbara County, California. Goleta is part of the central coast region of California and offers lots of great scenery and is a great place to live and to raise a family. The region is known primarily for agriculture and tourism. Major crops include wine grapes, lettuce, strawberries, and artichokes. Goleta is known for being near the University of California, Santa Barbara campus, although the CDP of Isla Vista is closer. Much of Goleta is considered to be a quiet suburban community while Santa Barbara tends to attract most of the tourists and the area's residents. Goleta is about 8 miles west of the city of Santa Barbara, along the coast (the coast runs east to west in this portion of southern California). Where can you drive to from Goleta? Goleta is 2 hours northwest of Los Angeles. San Francisco is about 5 hours to the north of Goleta. Las Vegas, NV is about 5 hours to the northeast.
Bachelor's degree. The position requires working knowledge in automated assembly processes. Experience in semiconductor packaging and/or processing, either in industry or a university environment. Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), familiar with DOE analysis, SPC, and have excellent engineering documentation skills and communication skills. Must have the ability to obtain a security clearance and therefore must be a U.S. Citizen.
Experience with high volume semiconductor packaging processes. IR industry experience is beneficial. Knowledge of common IR manufacturing processes such as: laser welding, adhesive component attach, wirebonding, vacuum ovens, and plasma processes. Familiarity with MATLAB and JMP or other data analysis software. Demonstrated ability to lead teams on projects of moderate complexity. Ability to interface effectively from the technician level to senior management.
Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education. Entry level.
