Plans, sets up, and performs a sequence of machining operations on multiple station machine tools to a high degree of accuracy. Plans and lays out work to construct and repair special tooling and special test equipment used in production and test areas. Performs non-standard repairs of production assemblies. Installs all cutting tools, drills, etc. Selects proper coolants, cutting, and lubricating oils. Dresses tools as required.
Determines, sets, and adjusts speeds and feeds, depth, and angle of cuts. Positions and aligns various specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised tooling necessary to machine to close tolerance of metal or non-metallic materials. Devises unusual machining methods to minimize the number of setups and the amount of machining required.
Interprets drawings, charts, sketches, specifications, and other documentation for parts to be machined. Confers with customers to provide information and feedback regarding assembly repair and special tooling/special test equipment repair and fabrication.
Orders materials and tooling required to perform job function.
Performs related job duties, as required. Shifts priorities as directed when business needs dictate.
Minimum 5 years of machinist-related experience including, but not limited to, any of the following equipment: manual mill and lathe, drill press, band saw, belt/disc grinder, relevant hand tools.
Ability to interpret and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and military specifications.
This facility requires special access and therefore all candidates must be a US Citizen.
Experience with electro-mechanical manufacturing and assembly, CAD software and tooling design.
Ability to obtain security clearance.
