ElectroMechanical Engineer Sr. Staff / Packaging / PWB + CCA Design / Chelmsford, MA

Lockheed Martin is seeking to hire an experienced ElectroMechanical Engineer at our campus in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. This exciting role will offer the opportunity to work with our industry leading electrical design professionals develop high reliability printed wiring board (PWB) and circuit card assembly (CCA) designs. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring that all designs meet the highest reliability requirements as well as the product life cycle requirements.

The engineer will lead electrical packaging technology development efforts, pushing the limits of technology to improve the Size, Weight, Power and Cost of our product and develop evaluation plans to implement advance technologies consistent with military applications. The engineer will participate in various industry organizations and standard bodies developing, advanced PWB and CCA technologies. The engineer will provide technical expertise support production line validation events at PWB and CCA suppliers and assist in the process of supplier selection. The engineer will develop specifications for implementation of advance processes and technologies not directly covered by existing standards.

The engineer will lead failure investigations related to electronics packaging, driving to root cause and corrective action, and preventive measures. The engineer will perform risk assessments and present them as formal reports to the military customer. The engineer will be responsible for qualifying COTs electronic technologies for high reliability military use. The engineer will collaborate with other engineering disciplines to include hardware engineers, systems engineers, and circuit design engineers as well as technicians and manufacturing support personnel.

The Locale: Chelmsford is a charming suburb of Boston located about 25 miles northwest of that city. Chelmsford is very close to historic Lowell Massachusetts and to Nashua, New Hampshire. Chelmsford is within reach of New Hampshire's White Mountains and awesome ski areas to the north, and the scenic coastal towns of MA and NH are about an hour east. This scenic colonial region offers lots of New England charm, great schools, shopping, and restaurants. Chelmsford and the region share an impressive past from the early days after the pilgrims arrived in Plymouth to the revolutionary war. Where can you get to from Chelmsford? Chelmsford is about 90 minutes from Cape Cod. Boston is about 30 minutes to the east without traffic. New York City is about 4.5 hours away from Chelmsford. Waterville Valley and other major ski resorts of New Hampshire and Vermont are about 2 to 3 hours to the north.
It should be noted that Chelmsford, Massachusetts is approximately 35 miles northwest of the Boston metropolitan area and offers better access to a wide range of substantially more affordable regions in the area to live. Those regions include Northeastern and North Central Massachusetts, and Southern, New Hampshire.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an engineering or technical discipline
Demonstrated experience in PWB or CCA design and manufacturing
Demonstrated Knowledge of J-STD-001 Class 3 requirements for surface mount technology (SMT) circuit card assemblies (CCAs)
Demonstrated knowledge of IPC requirements for military and aerospace printed wiring boards (PWBs)
Demonstrated ability to assess the technical capability of multiple sub-trier supplier fabrication / manufacturing processes to achieve performance and reliability required in military applications.
Experience leading engineering teams to perform technology evaluations
Experience leading engineering teams to perform failure investigations and risk assessments
Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
Ability to travel to PWB supplier and contract manufacturers.
Candidate must be able to obtain a Secret Clearance and have at least an interim secret prior to start.

Desired skills
Master's degree in an engineering or technical discipline
Experience with Printed Wiring Board Design
PWB Manufacturing experience
CCA Manufacturing experience
Working knowledge of metallurgic interfaces and its impact on performance and reliability.
Experience with ENEPIG PWB Plating Finish
Experience with laser drilled MicroVia design, manufacturing and reliability
Demonstrated knowledge of high reliability Military component standards and specifications such as MIL-STD-883, MIL-STD-38534, MIL-PRF-55342, MIL-PRF-55681.
Experience with PWB design tools such as Allegro
Experience with SAP, Microsoft Access, Oracle, or similar database systems.
Experience with component thermal analysis.
Demonstrated attention to detail; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to multitask; good organizational skills, computer literacy, and demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment.
