This Systems Engineering opening will be a key position on the OPIR ground mission payload team. This position will provide coordination between the Lockheed Martin ground team and the payload providers for all activities required to develop, test, and deliver a subcontracted payload that works with the greater system and meets the mission requirements. This position will be an integral participant in the spacecraft payload to ground system development & integration and will demonstrate ownership over the payload to ground segment interface, including payload provided software and simulator. The position will be required to do evaluation of mission payload performance and evaluate suitability for interfacing with our backend mission processing software.

The following tasks are representative of those that will be accomplished:
- Demonstrate ownership over the payload to ground segment interface. Coordinate between ground team and external payload providers and support subcontract management for the payload providers. Work collaboratively with the Lockheed Martin team and the payload providers to develop a working system that meets the mission needs. Develop productive relationships with payload vendors and internal company subsystem experts.
- Participate and lead reviews of payload schedules and plans to ensure requirements will be met.
- Key participant in the system level Critical Design Review
- Identify and assess emerging risks
- Oversee existing interface design documentation and possible updates
- Ensures external payload providers deliver usable simulator content
- Manage and coordinate schedule for software updates to/from payload providers.
Basic Qualifications:
- Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and engineering problem solving methodologies as a key participant in engineering and software systems design analysis activities
- Ability to evaluate algorithms to evaluate spacecraft payload performance.
- Ability to facilitate technical conflict resolution between companies.
Desired Skills:

- Experience with remote sensing systems
- Possesses strong leadership qualities, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills
- Technical expertise in spacecraft payload design, integration, and test
- Capacity to learn in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with integration and test of spacecraft payloads
- Experience with EO/IR Sensors Modeling, Simulation, and Algorithm Performance Optimization
- Overhead Infrared (OPIR) systems experience
- Masters of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution
