Software Development Engineer
Description: The Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL) is the corporate research laboratory for Lockheed Martin Corporation - a global enterprise whose core businesses include aeronautics, space, maritime, and ground systems. Within ATL, the Informatics Research Lab is developing and deploying research prototypes in areas including advanced Data Analytics; machine-based Artificial Intelligence; and Machine Learning. Our research builds on foundational software techniques that reflect the cutting edge of open source and "Big Data" tools, software engineering best practices, and collaboration with industrial, small business and university research partners. Our primary focus is on applied research resulting in capabilities that can both advance the research state of the art, and transition selected results to real-world early adopter organizations and applications. Our funding comes from both corporate investment and from government Science and Technology research agencies such as DARPA, IARPA, and other military and government research labs.
The Informatics Laboratory is seeking skilled software professionals capable of participating in typically small development teams (3-5 people), supervised by an experienced software architect or project technical lead. The successful candidate will participate in a highly dynamic applied research environment, where development of experimental research prototypes leads to rapid adaptation of requirements and design. Projects typically offer opportunities to work on teams with operational military and intelligence community experts, as well as university and small business technology research providers. The work will explore innovative applications of AI, Machine Learning, and Big Data architectures and analytics to Defense and Intelligence challenge problems.

Prior to starting work, the selected candidate will select a standard 40 hour / 5 days per week flexible schedule or a flexible 9/80(A) schedule (typically M-Th 9 hours/day; 8 hours on Friday and every other Friday off)
Desired Skills: • Expertise in additional programming or scripting languages such as C++, etc.;
• Experience with widely used open source Big Data architecture stacks and tools;
• Coursework or other exposure to academic research in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Game Theory, Data Science and Analytics, Intelligent Agents or related areas;
The successful candidate must offer demonstrated expertise and experience in the following areas:
• Degree in Computer Science, or related technical field with an extensive software programming and software engineering focus;
• Minimum of 1 years Experience in software design, development, test, integration and related software engineering practices
• Competency demonstrated through hands-on work in Java and Python;
• Ability to obtain DoD Secret or higher clearance which requires US citizenship. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
