Senior Core Services Engineer

Description:Seeking an experienced professional for a senior Engineering position working in the Aircraft Design (AD) Core Services group, in Sikorsky's Stratford, CT facility. The AD Core Services group supplements AD's technical engineering expertise with best-in-class engineering and business related services including design quality checking, kit checking, requirements & interface management, earned value management, estimating, sourcing, continuous improvement initiatives and metrics.
Roles & Responsibilities will include one or more of the following to meet the needs of the AD organization:
Requirements and Interface Management:
Conduct requirements flowdown activity including verification and support development of interfaces for AD subsegments. This includes development, release and maintenance of Allocated and Product Baseline level Sikorsky Engineering Specifications. Liaison activities between AD subsegments and System Engineering assisting with requirement derivation, flowdown, compliance and verification efforts at the Customer, Functional and Allocated baseline levels. Prepare data and present requirements flowdown status and compliance/risk at key customer landmarks (SRR, SFR, PDR, CDR, PRR).
Earned Value Management:
Support AD program engineering IPTs through key aspects of their Earned Value Management (EVM) lifecycle, including detail planning, monthly status, change request creation, variance and ETC analysis, bottom-up EACs, and other program specific performance evaluations. Additional responsibilities would include laying out and tracking team to schedules needed to support timely and quality completion, reviewing EV work products as they develop and leading the team in improvements, providing advanced EV data analysis/reports such as staffing distributions during planning cycles and TCPI vs CPI variances during bottom up EACs.
Support the Estimating Lead by developing estimates and proposal related documents based on USGBO schedules, Statements of Work, Configuration Matrices, and Bill of Materials. Help develop Engineering Design plans to support proposal requirements. Estimate Airframe Design and Process Engineering budgets. Understand requirements and provide feedback on compliance issues, review proposal schedules, provide feedback on plan/schedule issues, and help develop Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) activities and linkages.
Core Processes/Enterprise Excellence:
Lead AD initiatives that drive quality, speed and delivery to internal and external customers. This will include but not be limited to update and maintenance of the AD metric dashboard including the development and addition of new metrics, lead Airframe Engineering cost savings/avoidance initiatives, willingness to achieve Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Green Belt certification and function as Enterprise Excellence Lead (EEL) for the Airframe Engineering work area including work area metric management, proper DIVE execution, attendance of monthly Enterprise Excellence Communication meetings and helping to ensure compliance with AS9100 requirements.
The individual may be deployed for a period of time to new or in process programs to support and perform general design engineering activities
The candidate will be expected to work independently, to resolve and develop solutions, with only general direction and guidance provided. The candidate will also be expected to perform in a leadership role with regard to specific project execution and providing results and solutions to internal customers. The candidate will also be expected to frequently interface inter-organizationally as well as with outside customer contacts, as needed, and may represent the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
•Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education
•5 years of professional experience in a mechanical design engineering, or project management environment with a Bachelor's Degree; or 3 years of professional experience in a mechanical design engineering, or project management environment with a related Master's Degree.
•Strong proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
•Demonstrated in depth knowledge and practical application of System Engineering processes
•Working knowledge of MatrixOne, DOORS, Primavera and/or wInsight
•Demonstrated in depth knowledge and practical application of Earned Value processes
•Working knowledge of aircraft drawings and models. Must be able to interpret aircraft drawings/models and Bill of Material (BOM)
•Highly motivated and flexible individual with a track record of demonstrated results
•Must be able to work independently at times and coordinate efforts with concurrent engineering branches/resources.
•Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership and working level teammates
•Working knowledge of Air Vehicle systems including Airframe, Propulsion, Landing Gear, Electrical Wiring and Equipment and, Mission Equipment
•Experience with industry design guidelines, design and drafting manuals and engineering standard work. Direct Sikorsky experience in this area is a plus.
