This assignment involves mechanical modeling, simulation, design, fabrication and testing of packaging and thermal solutions to control photonic systems and advanced computing systems. Candidates will partake in small, focused development teams in order to create real world solutions using scientific first principals into innovative designs for applied technologies.
Proficiency with mechanical engineering principles and tools is required. Prior experience and proficiency with Ansys, Creo, is required. Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, Labview, SPICE and/or other modeling and simulation tools is required. Hands on experience with vibration or thermal testing is preferred. Prior experience in Research and Development is preferred.
Candidates would work on one or more of the following topics:
Embedded processing and algorithms for military applications
Lab testing and integration of high performance ruggedized photonic/fiber optic systems
Support modeling and simulation efforts related to these systems
Support electrical and/or software design efforts related to these systems
BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar major
Proficiency with mechanical engineering theoretical principles and practices.
Proficiency with mechanical design tools such as Creo, ProE, SolidWorks, or similar.
Basic understanding of Finite Element Analysis.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Experience with thermal, vibration, shock, structural analysis and testing.
Experience with working in multi-functional teams, particularly with Electrical Engineers on collaborative designs.
Proficiency with structural and thermal analysis tools such as ANSYS or similar.
Experience with Finite Element Analysis and proficiency with associated tools.
Experience in a research environment.
