Mechanical Design Lead - Experienced

Sunnyvale, CA

Description:The candidate will be a mechanical design lead who will be accountable for the vehicle integration across the design, integration, and test phases. acting as a subject matter expert for the customer and internal stakeholder team. Responsibilities include maintaining the vehicle drawing/model structure, establishing requirements, creating component and subsystem envelope and interface drawings/models, installation engineering, vehicle configuration engineering, and resolving/deconflicting design issues. The candidate is expected to provide technical leadership during the development of the vehicle by interfacing with various program disciplines and will support proposals and special projects, providing inputs for schedule/manpower/budgets.

Specific tasks and responsibilities include the following:
• Generate/update solid models using ProE/CREO, create/revise detailed drawings/models and release engineering work products in EPDM
• Review requirements from various sources (dynamics, stress, systems, thermal, manufacturing, etc.), and ensure that applicable requirements are flowed into the detailed design of the products
• Perform detailed tolerance stack and close clearance analyses
• Must be able to work effectively in an integrated product team environment and lead working group discussions
• Resolve issues/conflicts between internal groups for the best design solution
• Formal or informal leadership of a team
• Collaborate effectively with program leadership, technical leadership, subject matter experts, peers, analysis, configuration control, procurement, planning and integration and test teams to ensure technical requirements, cost objectives, and program schedules are met
• Present at major design reviews and advise customer and key stakeholders as necessary
• Provide leadership and mentoring for the group, reviewing engineering for correctness and that it meets intent
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• Extensive mechanical design and integration knowledge and experience
• Experience with Computer Aided Design (CAD) modeling and drafting with knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong social skills, and ability to build consensus among peers while building solid relationships with team members
• Fundamental understanding of other disciplines including stress, dynamics, thermal analysis, production, electronics, systems engineering, etc.
• Formal or informal leadership of a team in a professional environment
• Ability to obtain a TS/SCI with Poly
Desired Skills:
• Creo and CAD data management (EPDM) experience
• Flight hardware experience
• Using CAD model as record of authority (Data Set Rating 4 and/or 6) experience
• Familiarity with Lockheed Martin specifications/tools/procedures
• Knowledge of composite structure design and fabrication
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes and documentation
• Extensive experience with integrating complex systems
• Experience with test methods, planning and execution
• Experience working with other LM operating units
• Experience working with suppliers and customers
• Experience with design and execution in a firm fixed priced environment
• Technical writing and communication skills with experience writing process documents
• Active TS/SCI clearance

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
"Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California or New York City is $135,800 - $256,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
