Electrical Engineer - Santa Barbara, CA
Description: Santa Barbara Focalplane is seeking an experienced electrical engineer to design state-of-the art electronics for infrared imaging systems. Experience with FPGA Verilog HDL, PCB electronics design, power supply design, basic analog op amp and regulator design, video data interfaces, such as CameraLink, GigE vision, CoaXpress, and similar protocols, DDR memory interfaces, 10G Ethernet interfaces, and other high-speed digital I/O's is desired. Responsibilities include project lead and management of camera electronics systems, schedule and cost management of projects, board level requirements definition and flow down, schematic capture, analog, digital, and mixed signal circuit analysis, Verilog FPGA firmware design and timing analysis, and hands on lab experience integrating and troubleshooting new board designs is desired. Coordination with other engineering disciplines such as ROIC engineering, systems engineering, mechanical engineering, test engineering, and software engineering is a required function of all engineers on site to ensure all aspects of our product line successfully integrate together.

The Locale: Goleta is a city in southern Santa Barbara County, California. Goleta is part of the central coast region of California and offers lots of great scenery and is a great place to live and to raise a family. The region is known primarily for agriculture and tourism. Major crops include wine grapes, lettuce, strawberries, and artichokes. Goleta is near the University of California, Santa Barbara campus. Much of Goleta is a quiet suburban community while Santa Barbara tends to attract most of the tourists and the area's residents. Goleta is about 8 miles west of the city of Santa Barbara, along the coast (the coast runs east to west in this portion of southern California). Where can you drive to from Goleta? Goleta is 2 hours northwest of Los Angeles. San Francisco is about 5 hours to the north of Goleta. Las Vegas, NV is about 5 hours to the northeast.
Desired Skills: 3.0 GPA
Project lead experience, along with FPGA, analog, digital, and mixed signal design, simulation, and PCB (printed board circuit) design and layout supervision is required. Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead and manage design projects. Experience with requirements flow down preparing and presenting design reviews.
Experience with Verilog firmware design with FPGA's (Altera and/or Xilinx), imaging protocols (CameraLink, GigE Vision, etc), DDR memory interfaces, Ethernet or other high-speed card-to-card interfaces, PCB schematic capture, analog, digital, and mixed signal circuit design and analysis, Spice simulation, and signal integrity analysis with tools such as Hyperlynx
Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited college in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
