Contracts Manager

Lever is in a period of unprecedented growth, and with it comes new agreements being signed every day. We’re looking for a Contracts Manager to own contract management for the entire organization—from sales agreements to vendor relations and technology procurement. Partnering with our CFO, you’ll optimize our contract management process and set Lever up to scale rapidly and efficiently.

THE ROLE
You’ll work directly with our Sales organization to advise them how to properly structure agreements and be our resident expert. You will be the point person to continuously train our departmental leaders and develop our sales team’s understanding of negotiation and renewal best practices.

In addition to partnering with our revenue generating side of the business, you’ll work with our outside counsel and c-suite to negotiate partnerships and third party agreements and determine the standards for Lever’s legal processes going forward.

THE SKILL SET

  • 5+ years of contract drafting and negotiation experience at a technology company and/or law firm
  • Beyond your mastery of reading, drafting, and understanding complex contracts, you can read between the lines (nothing gets past you!)
  • Experience training and teaching peers on negotiation, contracts, jargon, and legal best practices 
  • Previous experience owning business contracts, external vendor contracts, and everything in between
  • Desire to work cross-functionally across many departments partnering with everyone from the c-suite to account executives 
  • Success in identifying and implementing process improvements and best practices 

WITHIN 1 MONTH YOU'LL

  • Complete Ramp Camp, our comprehensive onboarding program designed to jumpstart Leveroos and get them to full productivity as quickly as possible, while gaining a broader understanding about how their role fits into the org, Lever’s product, mission, etc. 
  • Conduct 1:1s with your internal business partners. Understand their pain points, opportunities for process improvement, and identify five top priorities and a plan for implementing changes You’ll also use this time to to articulate strategy/timing for owning all vendor and sales contracts at Lever
  • Work with CFO to determine the strategy and timing for full contracts support rollout to Sales, Marketing , Product, Finance, and Engineering. You’ll be the executor for bringing this strategy to fruition
  • Work with the Head of Sales Operations and Accounting Manager to understand  contract infrastructure within Salesforce, Zuora and Bill.com. You’ll demonstrate this knowledge by administering your first contract in Zuora
  • Review current contracts process with CFO; propose improvements and changes to CFO and create communications plan to roll out to Sales. You’ll partner on several contracts together, and then take over all contract review before they’re sent to sales management for approval and client signature

WITHIN 3 MONTHS YOU'LL

  • Own the contracting process in partnership with Sales to ensure deal closure through supporting Sales in negotiations planning. This will include collecting relevant approvals from internal stakeholder for key contract terms,  looping in relevant stakeholders along the way, and working with outside counsel as necessary
  • Also own the vendor contracting and negotiating process for all vendor contracts and negotiate/renew contracts.  You’ll support Sales in negotiation planning and aligning with departmental budgets for any new/renewed contracts
  • Advise Account Executives on contract objection-handling techniques, alternative contract options, and value propositioning to help close deals. You’ll also be point for responding to customer and internal stakeholder questions about key contract terms
  • Build a strong partnership through 1:1s and other regular meetings with CFO and escalate legal matters as necessary. You will lead in defining when and what to escalate
  • Create and manage a comprehensive contracts management database to ensure all vendor contracts are accurately accounted for

WITHIN 6 MONTHS YOU'LL

  • Partner with the rest of the finance team on accruals for upcoming vendor contract negotiations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop a robust objections-handling database
  • Taking what you’ve learned over your first six months, you’ll design and deliver relevant trainings to the Sales organization surrounding best practices and process updates, determined by you
  • Take ownership of responding to general inquiries and requests for legal documents
  • Determine Lever’s  standard  of form agreements and legal processes while also maintaining an eye on continuous improvement to ensure our processes are  efficient and can scale
  • Lead training for Sales organization on contracts on an ongoing basis. You’ll continue to check in with Sales leadership to make sure relevant areas are being addressed and reps are trained up
  • Lead training for all departmental leaders on vendor negotiations on an ongoing basis

WITHIN 12 MONTHS YOU'LL

  • Research and select technology solutions to improve the contract administration process. You’ll lead the implementation process and conduct any relevant trainings 
  • Take  full ownership of this function, including management of any additional team members, scaling, and other team-related responsibilities. You’ll identify ongoing strategy for the team and tackle all resourcing in partnership with CFO
  • Re-evaluate our current processes and workflows. Identify areas of opportunity and create a plan for improvement. Present your plan to CFO and roll out as necessary
  • Work with FP&A function to proactively identify 5% savings in total vendor contracts for the upcoming year
