Senior Technical Writer
This position can be worked remotely or in our Denver office
The senior technical writer drives the creation of a documentation methodology and framework and maintains proper methodology for purposes of consistency and efficiency. This role prepares and/or maintains documentation pertaining to programming, systems operation, and user documentation. This position translates business specifications into user documentation. The senior technical writer plans, writes and maintains systems and user support documentation efforts, including online help screen. This position is familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices and procedures. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Learn complex product features and turn them into succinct but thorough documentation that spurs "ah ha" learning moments in users. Create documentation methodology and framework.
Document core product and customer solution-specific code.
Create document flow diagrams.
Document programming methodologies and toolkit use.
Develop and maintain user-training materials.
Document training curricula.
Recommend/propose documentation design and migration plan for existing documentation.
Mentor Technical Writers and other supporting staff.
Collaborate with IT, Operations, and Corporate teams to create or update documentation.
Work with Corporate Program Management team to estimate and determine the scope of a new project.
Work closely with primary Technical Writer and/or subject matter experts (SMEs) to gain a working knowledge of the application.
Work closely with primary Technical Writer and/or SMEs to review existing documentation and determine where any updates and/or edits need to occur.
Understand, interpret and translate technical requirements into an easily to understand format.
Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, or Journalism (required)
Master's degree in Technical Communication, English, or Journalism (preferred)
Minimum of five years related technical writing experience (required).
Professional fluency in written and spoken English (required).
Proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly MS Word.
Effective in teaching others.
Demonstrated aptitude in technology applications.
Excellent communication and problem solving skills.
Ability to absorb knowledge easily over a short period of time.
Attention to detail and ability to multitask.
Ability to work under pressure and with aggressive deadlines.
Ability to analyze and organize complex information and present it in an easy-to-understand manner.
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Mortgage and or Financial Industry Experience Required.
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Power Point, and Excel).
Working knowledge of the Software Development Lifecycle, preferably in an agile development environment, and the use of enterprise-level collaboration, version control, and bug/case tracking software and procedures.
Skilled in image capture, cropping, and placement using Snag It or similar tool.
Self-starter, competent at working independently with minimal supervision.
Strong investigative/research/interview orientation and skills.
Work is performed in climate controlled indoor administrative office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate, depending upon office or meeting location.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. The employee frequently is required to remain stationary. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 10 pounds. Vision: Close and distance required with ability to see objects in presence of glare or bright lighting (e.g., computer screen). Speech/Hearing: Frequently interact with management, vendors, coworkers, industry constituents, clients and the public.
