Regulatory Counsel will perform complex and confidential research, analytical, and written functions to ensure that the Compliance Department meets its critical internal and external client deliverables.
Monitors and tracks federal and state legislation and regulatory developments impacting the mortgage, vehicle finance, general consumer lending, and debt collection industries. Includes updating legislative tracking document on weekly basis
Contributes to the production of periodic client communications, including researching, writing and proofreading content, and participating on weekly client calls
Partners with members of the Compliance team on duties related to the periodic client webinar, including helping to draft presentation, organization of materials, presenting content, etc.
Responsible for monthly updates to housing counseling agency lists and other regulatory contact information
Partners with members of the Compliance Team to ensure that new and existing company and client documents contain all requisite regulatory content
Responsible for maintaining and organizing department specific collateral on SharePoint site
Ability to share and advance the department’s objectives with other lines of business
Reads, analyzes and interprets business periodicals, professional legal journals, technical procedures, and government (state and federal) regulations
Researches and writes articles for industry publication
Effective presentation of information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and other stakeholders
Writes reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Identifies process breakdowns and update or formulate new standard operating procedures or training materials
Presents state and federal regulatory requirements in a training environment
Evaluates courses of action and alternatives and makes decisions and recommendations accordingly
Customarily and regularly exercises discretion, independent judgment, and makes recommendations related to regulatory and compliance related matters
Other duties as may arise in support of the goals of the department and company
Regular and predictable attendance is required
High school diploma or equivalent
College degree (B.A. in political science, pre-law, etc.)
Juris Doctor (JD) required
Law License preferred
2+ years of experience in financial services, mortgage and/or vehicle finance, legal and regulatory issues
Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Explorer, Outlook, etc.
Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
Professional and positive demeanor, with customer service, and quality mindset
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, juggle multiple priorities and adapt quickly based on the needs of the department and the organization
Self-motivated, takes initiative to complete and add value to assigned tasks with attention to detail
Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment
Ability to effectively estimate work accurately and produce deliverables on time
Ability to communicate and work with all levels of staff and management
Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of client, staff, and vendor information
Professional demeanor, including ability to use tact and sound judgment in contact with individuals within and outside of the corporation
Work is performed in climate controlled indoor administrative office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate, depending upon office or meeting location.

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move 10 pounds. Vision: Close and distance required with ability to see objects in presence of glare or bright lighting (e.g., computer screen). Speech/Hearing: Frequently interact with management, vendors, coworkers, industry constituents, clients and the public.
