Lead ETL Developer

Data Engineering Lead provides technical expertise for database design, development, implementation, information storage and retrieval, data flow and analysis for company’s transactional and data warehouse systems. This will be a hands on development role that will lead various design discussions, create solution design deliverables, develop technologies and ensure successful delivery of business capabilities adhering to the company’s architectural framework, standards and best practices.

The candidate needs to have great passion for technology and emerging trends and should provide guidance to ensure that the Legalzoom remains on the cutting edge of technology and can offer new features to the business thereby reducing “Go-To-Market” time for new product offerings.

What you’ll do:

  • Leads designing, developing and implementing major database systems (transactional and dimensional) that support strategic initiatives
  • Develop database architectural strategies at the modeling, design and implementation stages to address business or industry requirements for both transactional and data warehousing systems
  • Lead overall technical solutions interacting across departments (business and technical) to translate requirements into Technical Solutions and Design Documents
  • Accountable for both dimensional and transactional data models (inclusive of structured and semi-structured)
  • Contributes to establishing data blueprints, frameworks, stewardship and data governance models
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of data integration (ETL) framework
  • Provide technical solutions covering data structures, sourcing, integration, security, and retention policies
  • Ensure that data strategies and architectures are in regulatory and security compliance
  • Develop strategies and standards for data acquisition, data enrichment, data consumption, data warehousing, data archival/recovery and data destruction
  • Evaluate new data sources for adherence to the organization’s quality standards and ease of integration
  • Participate in information meta-data strategy definitions
  • Defines design and development standards and guidelines while staying in tune with the industry best practices and technology trends
  • Develops sound migration practices of the various platforms to the next generation systems through a combination of “Green field” approach and phased sunset approach
  • Act as a liaison with various technical service teams
  • Work with application development staff to develop and enforce database architectures, coding standards and quality assurance policies and procedures


  • 2+ years in a technical lead role
  • Minimum of 6+ years of data architecture, design, development, data-flow patterns, SQL constructs, performance tuning and optimization in a large enterprise that consists of high-volume, 24/7 transactional and reporting systems
  • The candidate must demonstrate senior knowledge and practice with Relational and Dimensional Database development concepts and database life cycle methods and procedures
  • Expertise in in creating conceptual, logical and physical data models
  • Strong familiarity with data storage repositories and modeling tools
  • Deep knowledge of indexing, partitioning and fragmentation strategies
  • Possesses very strong facilitation and evangelizing skills that assisting in translating business needs into effective IT Solutions
  • In depth knowledge of concepts and experience writing SQL and ETL code with the ability to analyze, diagnose, and tune for scale and performance
  • In-depth understanding and experience with ETL, data warehousing/data marts, and design and management processes associated with each
  • Must be a data technologist and evangelist for the organization and be able to train and mentor other team members and senior staff
  • Proven track record of being able to solve complex problems independently and to seek out and generate innovative solutions
  • Be able to multi-task and manage multiple project/task assignments simultaneously and must be able to clearly document technical specifications
  • Highly motivated self-starter, detail and quality oriented and able to work independently and be able to resolve complex problems that have implications beyond your own area
  • Must have ability to communicate precisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field
  • 2+ years of experience with big-data platforms and/or data warehouse appliance
  • Experience in delivering solutions on premise and cloud technology
  • Experience with agile development methodologies
  • Experience in ETL, reporting and analytics, and business intelligence tools
