Estate Planning Attorney (Product Development)

LegalZoom is seeking a talented, forward-thinking estate planning attorney with 5+ years of relevant experience to join our Product Legal team in Glendale, CA. This attorney will play an important role in maintaining, improving, and expanding our product offerings, with a focus on our estate planning products.

What you’ll do:

  • Assume primary responsibility for maintaining and developing estate planning products and services
  • Research state and local laws and regulations, and design questionnaires and documents tailored to each state’s requirements
  • Ensure existing products are updated to reflect ongoing statutory and regulatory changes
  • Serve as a subject matter expert to advise Product, Marketing, and Technology teams, and liaise with various operational managers to ensure continuing awareness of and responsiveness to changes in law and procedure
  • Provide ongoing product-related counsel to Customer Care, Sales, and Fulfillment teams
  • Frequently review and update product offerings and consumer-facing communications
  • Oversee and manage legal monitoring systems, with attention paid to state differences in information and procedure
  • Coordinate and resolve customer-related issues
  • Contribute to other Legal and Product department goals as needed

 Qualifications:

  • JD and licensed to practice law in California (or qualified as registered in-house counsel)
  • 5+ years of estate planning practice with a law firm, with experience handling matters from inception to conclusion and direct client contact. Experience with clients of varying net worth a plus
  • Hands-on experience across a broad range of estate planning services, including drafting of wills, trusts, and ancillary documents; experience with various trust types
  • Experience with corporate, transactional, and e-commerce matters is a plus
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers
  • Ability to self-start, meet deadlines, prioritize, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and work well with change in a fast-paced cross-functional environment
  • Forward-thinking, technologically proficient, and digital oriented
