Specimen Processing Team Lead (Support Services Team Leader)

The Integrated Genetics division is seeking a Support Services Team Leader to join their Specimen Processing and Accessioing team in RTP, NC!

The Support Services Team Leader will be responsible for coordinating the work of other employees within the specimen receiving group. In addition to performing the specimen processing functions of the group, this position will be responsible for assigning and reviewing work, administering the quality control program, ensuring that schedule time frames are met, advising management of problems areas, assisting in employee actions, and acting as a liaison with other departments and customers on inquiries.

The schedule for this position will be Tuesday - Saturday 10 am - 6:30 pm

Responsibilities:

  • Perform accessioning and order entry of specimens including but not limited to patient demographics, client information, specimen collection, clinical data, special client requests, and billing information
  • Monitor accessioning error rates and review monthly at staff meetings along with determining and implementing methods to prevent additional errors
  • Support Laboratory Supervisor with problem specimen investigation and resolution, general data entry, and 5S practices in the department
  • Train employees, and monitor performance of all employees in work group. Supply objective input to supervisor in the evaluation of employees' over-all job performance
  • Review test requisitions forms after accessioning daily to verify correct test ordered in laboratory LIS
  • Receive and unpack specimen shipments
  • Scan, track and route specimens to appropriate testing departments
  • Coordinate and pack specimens for send out to other healthcare facilities
  • Monitor client accounts for order entry errors daily
  • Troubleshoot daily specimen problems
  • Act as a liaison with other departments and customers on inquiries
  • Assign and review work of employees on a daily basis based on assessments of departmental needs
  • Make sure specimens are processed completely, accurately and within established time frames


Requirements
  • High School diploma with 4 years of clinical lab experience or other relevant lab experience; OR
  • AAS degree in a life science with 3 years of clinical lab experience or other relevant lab experience; OR
  • MLT certification or Bachelor's Degree with 1-2 years of clinical lab experience or other relevant lab experience
  • Attention to detail and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Strong computer skills and working knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Previous experience handling clinical specimens preferred
  • Familiarity with LabCorp's systems a plus
