Medical Technologist Scholarship

LabCorp is offering a Medical Technologist Scholarship to qualified candidates in the Tampa area who are interested in obtaining their Florida Technologist license. This unique opportunity will sponsor successful candidates through a NAACLS-accredited post-Baccalaureate program while they work as a Laboratory Assistant at our Tampa lab.

Candidates will be initially hired to work as a full-time Laboratory Assistant, then transition to a full-time, sponsored Medical Laboratory Science student with the opportunity to continue working full or part-time as a Laboratory Assistant. Once hired, candidates will need to apply and be accepted into the MLS program at Hillsborough Community College. Upon graduation from the MLS program and receiving their FL license, the candidate will be promoted into a Medical Technologist position. LabCorp will sponsor all costs related to tuition, university and lab fees, books, admissions, uniform and expenses related to certification exams and licensure.

The MLS Program runs from mid-August, 2023 until June, 2024 (10 months), followed by a 22-week clinical rotation covering various lab specialties. Upon successful completion in September, 2024 of all program elements, students will be eligible to become ASCP-certified as a medical laboratory scientist and obtain a Florida Technologist licensure.

All shifts available.

The pay rate to start will be $16/hour plus differential for 2nd/3rd shift.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree, which includes:
    • 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), OR
    • 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), AND
    • 1 semester (1 quarter) of mathematics
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or greater in undergraduate coursework
  • Commitment, initiative and drive to successfully:
    • take and pass admissions exam
    • attend, complete and pass all program coursework, homework and exams
    • complete clinical rotations
    • take and pass the ASCP certification exam
    • submit Florida license application
  • Work successfully as a Laboratory Assistant prior to program commencement and learn about clinical laboratory operations from the ground up!
  • Agree to work for LabCorp's Tampa laboratory as a Medical Technologist for a minimum of two years following receipt of Florida Technologist license.
