Position Summary:
Provide category management leadership to category managers on assigned categories. Communicate the direction of category management for the assigned categories to senior leadership and ensure company initiatives are consistent. Provide direction regarding Corporate Brand sales and new item introduction. Demonstrate the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion and safety.
Essential Job Functions:

  • Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports
  • Coordinate category managers' efforts to forecast and achieve weekly and period category sales goals, profit dollars, growth objectives, EBITDA, household/loyalty development and market share in assigned categories
  • Pull together category managers' General Office (G.O.) sales plans (customized by division) to ensure that the total plan meets all metrics goals
  • Ensure sales plans align with store labor, production, and manufacturing needs (Deli/Bakery only)
  • Participate in annual budget planning process
  • Oversee accuracy of sales and margins forecasting by week/period and by category
  • Assist and guide respective department (e.g., Deli, Bakery, Fresh Ready Meals) team members with product innovations and discovering new trends
  • Identify and address gaps in budgets/targets, review (weekly and post-mortem) ad plans and monitor category profit and loss (P&L)
  • Drive/support the segmentation marketing strategy
  • Identify best practices and effectively communicate them throughout the enterprise
  • Assist and support team members with issues that impact other departments (e.g., supplies, equipment, product quality)
  • Understand/react to the competitive landscape by segment for assigned categories
  • Manage, evaluate, mentor, train, and develop team (includes hiring, talent management, and compensation planning)

Minimum Position Qualifications:
  • 5 years of merchandising or operations experience
  • 2 years' experience leading a team
  • Demonstrated success in achieving sales and profit goals
  • Strong analytical, conflict management and problem resolution skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve issues under challenging circumstances
  • Strong oral/written communication skills
  • Strong skills in leadership, interpersonal relationship building and the development of others
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders/peer groups and achieve objectives through others
  • Ability to travel independently
