Kitchen Steward (Part Time)

Kitchen Steward – Part Time; Washington State

Reports to Curriculum Supervisor

The kitchen steward’s primary responsibility is to provide a clean and safe kitchen area for our staff; wash and clean dishware, pots, pans, utensils and other equipment as needed. Keep the sink area and equipment clean and organized.

This position is at King Arthur Flour’s Baking School at The Bread Lab, in Skagit Valley, Washington State.

Essential job function

  • Assume 100% responsibility for the cleanliness of pots, pans, dishware and utensils
  • Wash and store all pots, pans, dishware and utensils
  • Keep sink area clean and organized
  • Complete opening and closing checklists
  • Bag and haul trash to dumpster
  • Maintain adequate levels of dish detergents and cleaning supplies
  • Assist in cleaning and maintaining classroom spaces
  • Clean food preparation and production areas as required
  • Close the kitchen properly and follow the closing checklist for all stations; assist others in closing the kitchen
  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings and bring suggestions for improvement
  • Perform other kitchen maintenance duties as assigned

Minimum job requirements

  • Must possess a positive attitude and work well with other team members
  • Must be able to work unsupervised
  • Must be able to communicate clearly with managers and other staff
  • Be willing to follow directions and ask questions for clarification if needed
  • Be able to work in a fast paced kitchen environment

Physical/emotional requirements

  • Be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 7 hours)
  • Be able to work in hot, wet, humid and loud environment for long periods of time

Uniform Requirements

  • Footwear must be closed-toe, nonslip shoes
  • Socks must be worn
  • Long pants required
  • Clean T-shirt
  • Clean white apron (provided)
  • Hairnet or hat must be worn
