Senior Test Equipment Design Engineer

Kforce has a client, a growing company in the Lisle, IL area is seeking a Senior Test Equipment Design Engineer. We are working directly with the Hiring Manager. Essential Duties:

  • Will be responsible for leading the test equipment design and development efforts from concept to product launch for first to market consumer electronic products
  • Under minimal supervision, you will collaborate with cross-functional internal and external teams to design test equipment for the electrical, mechanical and firmware testing of products at all stages of the design and manufacturing cycle
  • You will also define the manufacturing work instructions and process control procedures for the manufacturing line
  • Collaborate with internal design engineers and external contract manufacturers to develop non-standard, specialty test equipment for product specific or customer specific acceptance tests, as required by product design engineering
  • Design manufacturing test equipment that will test electrical, mechanical and firmware features of high-volume consumer electronic products
  • Design R&D lab and manufacturing test equipment for testing gas detection products
  • Work with internal teams and external contract manufacturers to bring products to mass production
  • Play a lead role in defining the manufacturing process and manufacturing process control plans for high volume consumer electronic products


  • BS/MS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Electro-Mechanical Engineering or related degree required
  • 10 to 15 years of related industry experience designing manufacturing and/or lab equipment
  • Consumer electronics experience
  • Experience in electrical and mechanical design of lab/manufacturing test equipment utilized throughout the R&D test cycle from concept to product launch
  • Experience utilizing software tools, including LabVIEW/LabWindows, MATLAB and/or dSPACE to design lab test equipment
  • Ability to select required instrumentation, power sources and data acquisition equipment to meet test requirements
  • Experience using SolidWorks to do mechanical design of test equipment is preferred
  • Experience using Altium to do electrical design of test equipment or similar design software package
  • Ability to assess, define and contribute to root cause analysis investigations
  • Proven track record of collaborating with teams to design and develop products from concept to production
  • Ability to perform simple mechanical/electrical assembly for R&D lab equipment
  • Experience with common lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multi-meters
  • Clear, concise technical writing skills focused on equipment set-up, equipment use procedures and manufacturing process control plans
  • Proficient in status reporting, communicating technical data/results and issues, impacts and corrective actions
