Senior Mechanical Project Engineer

Kforce has a client that is seeking a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer - Consumer Packaging in Tucson, AZ. This role is currently 100% remote and will switch back to an office environment when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Responsibilities:

  • Identify and drive quality improvement projects from initial conception/justification through validation and implementation
  • Lead the development of retail packaging for the Consumer Products Strategic Business Unit which includes, but is not limited to, the identification and integration of suppliers with outstanding capabilities that improve the company's retail packaging quality, design, and costs
  • Identify and implement cost savings projects
  • Lead new product development by brainstorming, prototyping, and implementing new concepts that will grow the company's retail presence and margins
  • Implement new or update documentation (ECOs, drawing packages, etc.) as required
  • Work closely with manufacturing plants on implementing product and process improvements

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • 5-10 years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience in design and project engineering with increasing levels of responsibility including leadership of cross-functional teams
  • Retail packaging expertise including related manufacturing processes and printing technologies
  • Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of design/mechanical engineering concepts
  • Expertise with 3D CAD packages including modeling, assemblies, and drafting
  • Proven success in product development as a member or leader of a cross-functional team
  • Understanding of supply chain operations including material supply, manufacturing, inventory, and distribution
  • Project management and planning experience
  • Understanding of manufacturing process control strategies
  • Knowledge of basic assembly methods including fasteners, snap fits, and sonic welding
  • Understanding of structures/fluids and basic knowledge of material mechanics
  • Experience with plastic component design, injection mold tooling and processing, and thermoplastic/thermoset materials
  • Knowledge of SPC, FMEA, DOE and process capability studies
  • CAD modeling and drafting experience with SolidWorks
