Senior Mechanical Machine Design Engineer

Kforce has a client in search of a Senior Mechanical Machine Design Engineer in Tempe, Arizona (AZ). We are working directly with the Hiring Manager This role is currently 100% remote and will switch back to an office environment when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Duties:

  • Independently designs complete mechanical systems, products or product families of large scope for products ranging from simple products to complex systems to satisfy customer requirements; Organizes design plan and technical strategy to assure successful execution
  • Will be responsible for self-managed workload of multiple projects with a high level of quality and creativity; Acts as a team mentor to less experienced engineers
  • Will serve as an expert resource in product development and engineering problem solving processes
  • This individual has a proven track record of solving complex technical problems and understands the mechanisms involved in successfully executing solutions within the company
  • Directs, coordinates, supports and/or audits manufacturing and assembly activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design specifications and customer expectations
  • Provides technical leadership for project teams; Project focused efforts to ensure that technical solutions are delivered to support overall project needs; May mentor junior engineers
  • Practices and teaches others in the use of stage gate development methods, engineering tools, and related industry standards; Utilizes knowledge and expertise on industry standards and regulatory requirements to lead and teach team in this area
  • Reviews team test plans and procedures; Predicts test performance based on sound engineering practices; Directs personnel in fabrication of test equipment and develops methods and procedures for testing products or systems
  • Proactively investigates and solves problems that affect scrap, warranty/reliability and product cost for new and/or existing products

  • BS/BA Mechanical Engineering
  • 6-10 years of industry experience
  • At least 5 years concentrated experience using SolidWorks or other similar 3D CAD packages; Certified SolidWorks Professional preferred
  • At least 2 years FEA programs (ideally SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, or ABAQUS) with ability to teach others in most topics
  • Machine design is highly desired.
Experience engineering some of following types of parts would be ideal:
  • Complex machined parts, plastic injection molded parts, zinc and aluminum alloy die castings, sheet metal stampings
  • Products/assemblies with consideration for Design for Manufacturability
  • Advanced understanding of basic part dimensional inspection methods; able to use CMM; Can find related industry standards; Able to design go/no-go gaging with no assistance
  • Working knowledge of drawing tolerancing, GD&T
  • Knowledge of tolerance stack-up analysis (TSA) is a plus; Able to conduct complete TSA of systems with no oversight would be ideal
  • Ability to teach related knowledge of engineering analysis, mechanics, gear design, and stress and strain
  • Able to take project assignments and carry them through to successful implementation with minimal supervisory oversight
  • Able to present solution concepts through sketch, verbal and formal presentation means
