Principal Software Hardware Systems Engineer

Kforce has a client in search of a Principal Software Hardware Systems Engineer in Carlsbad, California (CA). This role is currently 100% remote and will switch back to an office environment when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Summary: The Principal Software Hardware Systems Engineer is responsible for the integration of designs from other disciplines into a complete and fully functional product. The preliminary phase starts with system requirements, architectural analysis and tolerance allocation used to generate system specifications. During the detailed design phase, the Principal Software Hardware Systems Engineer works on developing clinical usability and system reliability test cases. Finally, to the level appropriate, the Principal Software Hardware Engineer conducts or overseas all integration testing both in house and in the clinic, to assure the final product meets the needs of both internal and external customers. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains a current awareness of the customer (physician and other medical personnel) requirements of products
  • Quickly develops functional prototypes that demonstrate technologies that are feasible for development in the time and budget available
  • Works within or possibly leads and mentors small teams with experts of different fields (electrical engineers, scientist, clinical experts, etc.)
  • Builds consensus and gains support of key stakeholders; Coordinates across and within the organization to determine appropriate resources and budget to complete projects in the most-efficient manner; Helps influence decisions within the department and for projects to avoid shortcomings
  • Regularly collaborates with others and provides independent thought in suggesting and influencing design and research strategies; Works on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation and may impact future concepts and technology

  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience and a Bachelor's and/or Master's degree, and/or PhD in a scientific/engineering discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working familiarity with state-of-the-art system and software methodologies and tools including MATLAB, LabVIEW, and COMSOL
  • Excellent understanding of IEC 60601
  • Demonstrates technical expertise and implementing innovative solutions
  • Demonstrates high level of strategic and global thinking
  • Must be able to understand job duties and responsibilities, have the necessary skills/knowledge and be willing and able to continue learning and growing within the field
  • Must be skilled at managing a significant workload and obtaining positive results, taking on additional responsibility and managing priorities as needed
  • Must be accurate, detailed, committed to high quality standards and pro-active in finding solutions to achieve successful outcomes
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce accurate, punctual reports/information, as required and thoroughly share information with others; Must be able to read, write and speak effectively
  • Exceptional listening skills with the ability to seek constructive feedback, build relationships, promote teamwork and remain flexible and open-minded; Able to quickly adapt to change
