Mechanical Engineer - Consumer Products

Kforce has a client seeking a Mechanical Engineer - Consumer Products in Tucson, Arizona (AZ). This role is currently 100% remote and will switch back to an office environment when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supporting multiple projects concurrently, including new product development, product line extensions, and product improvement projects
  • Mechanical design and support for new product development, including conceptualization, prototype development, production implementation, and post-launch support in a cross-functional team environment
  • Responsible for the creation and modifications of CAD models, drawings, BOMs, and documentation
  • Responsible for prototype development, developing and specifying test apparatus, and conducting tests
  • Initiates and coordinates engineering change orders (ECOs)
  • Self-checks accuracy of models and drawings and checks the work of others throughout the product development process
  • Interacts with engineering, marketing, manufacturing, purchasing, and management to ensure that product development priorities are met, while ensuring quality and product performance
  • Supports the development and attainment of schedules and budgets
  • Participates in and conducts rigorous design reviews, supported by the use of technical tools, CAE, rapid prototyping, environmental testing, and technical knowledge
  • Incorporates lessons learned from existing products, product verification and field validation
  • Coordinates with Quality Assurance to develop appropriate documentation

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of product design and project engineering experience
  • Experience with consumer product design is desired
  • Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts
  • Proficiency in 2D drafting, assembly drawings and 3D solid modeling CAD software (SolidWorks strongly preferred)
  • Proficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) principles is preferred
  • Experience creating BOMs, ECOs and other engineering documentation
  • Experience with SolidWorks simulation software and mold flow simulation software
  • Design experience with high-quality, low-cost, high-volume products
  • Proven success in product development as a member of a cross-functional team
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced team environment
Preferred but not required:
  • Knowledge of DFMEA, PFMEA and other quality improvement techniques
  • Experience with consumer products
  • Knowledge of Mold Flow analysis and tolerance analysis
  • Experience in injection molded plastic component design
  • Detailed knowledge of injection molding tool designs and concepts
  • In-depth knowledge of plastic material uses and applications
