Manager, Data Science & Analytics

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a Manager, Data Science & Analytics in Atlanta, Georgia (GA). Summary: The Manager of Data Science & Analytics is responsible for leading a team and providing analytical and data science support to the development and execution of pricing strategies and tactics. They will play a key role in providing thought leadership to oversee the development of insightful and scalable pricing insights, ensuring analytic capabilities are defined with proper methodological rigor and architected to be available in a robust, scalable, and sustainable fashion. Essential Functions:

  • 40-50% doing analytics & being hands-on; other 50% is managing the team and helping them with strategy
  • 40% - Lead the team in development of analytical insights and recommendations to cross-functional business partners both within and outside of pricing organization to helping them gain a better understanding of business, identify sales and profitability opportunities, and improve their decision-making
  • 20% - Coordinate with stakeholders to conceptualize, develop and implement consistent, robust and sustainable pricing and business intelligence capabilities; Provide though leadership and subject matter expertise in all aspects related to analytics and data science within pricing context
  • 20% - Coach and continuously develop analytics and data science talent within the team
  • 10% - Collaborate with partners to define the strategy and development plan for pricing, business intelligence, and competitive intelligence capabilities
  • 10% - Prioritize multiple requests from executive and cross-functional partners for both ad-hoc and repeatable support


REQUIREMENTS:
  • Masters in technical or business area - Economics, Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Analytics, etc.
  • Need minimum five years in the analyst space
  • SQL experience
  • Experience managing people; he may consider indirect management candidates or candidates who have only a year of management experience
Technical Skills:
  • Statistical languages: R/SQL/Python- this team is migrating more towards Python, so that is preferred, however if they are really strong in one, they should be okay picking up the other
  • Knowledge of a variety machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks
  • Experience of using advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Tableau - they will be doing visualizations for presentations to the client
  • SQL - will be used for data prep, wants them to be able to work with data using SQL as this is used in day-to-day work for the people reporting into them, so need to be able to speak to it they will not assess on SQL formally in the interview, but expect they can hit the ground running
  • Most Important: Really good critical thinker/problem-solver, a lot of projects they have no background knowledge, so you have limited time to understand challenge and think through what the challenge means, what are limitations, what to consider, etc.; Need to get engaged with client quickly
Preferred Skills:
  • Retail background - will translate well/hit the ground running with business side
  • Pricing, not important, could be useful
