Billing and Collections Specialist

Kforce has a client seeking a Billing and Collections Specialist in North Lauderdale, Florida (FL). Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to HIPAA guidelines when handling patient information
  • Performs accurate and timely follow-up of unpaid claims by assigned payer/s to meet or exceed collection targets
  • Researches claim denials by assigned payer/s to determine reasons for denials, correcting and reprocessing claims for payment in a timely manner
  • Initiates and follow-up on appeals recognizing the payer-defined aging criteria
  • Identifies uncollectible accounts and performs accurate and timely write-offs
  • Monitors insurance claims by running appropriate reports and contacting insurance companies to resolve claims that are not paid in a timely manner
  • Checks that all payments are received, based on the fee schedule prior to closing the patient's file
  • Conducts follow up activities on all accounts to ensure prompt payment
  • Answer customer questions regarding problems with their accounts
  • Identifies and corrects any coding or billing problems from EOBs
  • Updates and document actions taken on patient account in company's software
  • Process new patient files; Verifying and entering patient demographics
  • Verify and enter health and automobile insurance benefits and eligibility (coverage) needed for the patient's claim
  • Transmits electronic claims via a clearing house
  • Submits paper claims to appropriately identified insurance companies
  • Process mail, post all insurance payments, deductibles, adjustments, and interests
  • Attend monthly and quarterly office meetings in addition to annual events
  • Open to cross-train in other departments

  • Certificate in Medical Billing and Coding preferred
  • (2) years of experience in Auto and Major Med Collections
  • (2) years of experience in A/R Reports
  • (2) year of experience in Billing and Collections
  • Extensive knowledge of Florida's Personal Injury Protection (PIP) laws
  • Microsoft Office
  • Computer literacy
  • Time management
  • Read and write English
