Senior Accountant, General Ledger

Company Overview

Kairos Power is a new nuclear energy technology and engineering company whose mission is to enable the world’s transition to clean energy, with the ultimate goal to dramatically improve people’s quality of life while protecting the environment. This goal will be accomplished through the commercialization of the fluoride-salt-cooled, high-temperature reactor (FHR) that can be deployed with robust safety, affordable costs, and flexible operation to accommodate the expansion of variable renewables.

Job Summary

The Senior Accountant will take an active role in Kairos Power’s month-end close process and various projects. In doing so, you will collaborate with leaders across the company from Engineering, Operations and Strategy to implement necessary financial tracking measures to provide key business insights to support financial analysis and business decisions by the company.

Responsibilities

Operations

  • Work with cross-functional teams to drive process improvement
  • Develop / document business processes and accounting policies
  • Recruit, hire, train the accounting staff as needed; identify training needs for current staff as needed
  • Review timesheets for the Staff Accountant and any interns on staff
  • Respond to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders

Month-End Close

  • Review month-end journal entries, balance sheet recompilations, and supporting schedules for all of our locations, inclusive of KP South Africa; assist in preparation as needed
  • Prepare / Review work papers and technical accounting support documents
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and improve month-end close processes
  • Enter / Review additional tracking dimensions as required for cost tracking measures
  • Prepare / Review flux analysis explanations for balance sheet and income statement accounts
  • Assist with the preparation of the month-end reporting package
  • Prepare location specific month-end reports and grant specific month-end reports
  • Prepare ad-hoc analyses as the needed or as requested from other departments
  • Performing tasks for both other teams members on an as needed basis

Tax and Filings

  • Prepare / Review monthly use/compensating taxes for our US locations (CA, NM, TN)
  • Review monthly VAT filings for our KPSA location
  • Assist with other tax and incentive filings as needed

Audits

  • Assist with any outgoing audits
  • Coordinate with outside auditors and provide information as needed

Census Reporting

  • Prepare any census reports for the US Government
  • Coordinate with other teams as needed to consolidate information required

Projects

  • Support new system implementations and/or operational process changes
  • Support business expansion and prepare revised operational process flows

Qualifications

  • 7+ years applicable experience in the high-growth technology sector, preferably with hardware
  • Demonstrated history of acting and leading with unwavering professionalism and integrity
  • Strong analytical skills, with expertise building and maintaining complex Excel templates
  • Advanced Excel Skills
  • Desire to learn, grow, take on additional responsibility
  • Desire to improve business processes and be a strong business partner to other teams
  • High-energy and a hands-on approach
  • Ability to question and challenge previous decisions
  • Committed to high standards of accuracy and precision
  • GAAP Knowledge (Accruals, COGS, and Capitalization versus Expense)
  • Proficient use and of various software (Examples: NetSuite, Coupa, Concur, etc.)
  • Able to thrive in a very fast-paced environment
  • Ability to multitask and meet assigned deadlines
  • Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to adapt job responsibilities as required to meet the demands and opportunities of a rapidly growing company
  • Mix of Big 4 accounting firm experience and private company experience
  • Experience working in the Accounting function in a start-up company environment
  • Ability to work with highly collaborative team
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, and MBA or related degree preferred
  • CPA or equivalent a plus

The salary range for this position is $118,800 to $139,800 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters. The range provided in this job posting represents the typical range or starting rate of candidates hired in California.  Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, the market data for your work location, and a comparison to other employees already in the role.
