Are you an exceptional researcher with a deep knowledge of protein biochemistry and purification? Are you interested in applying your expertise to discover novel biotherapeutics aimed at addressing the most difficult disease challenges? We at Janssen are looking for a highly motivated Senior Scientist to work in a fast-paced R&D environment applying rigorous scientific principles towards developing state of the art biological therapeutics.

As a successful candidate you will be responsible for fully leveraging protein purification and protein biochemistry technologies to support discovery of mAbs, bispecific/multispecific antibodies, and protein scaffolds for therapeutic candidate selection . You will serve as a critical liaison and reside at the nexus between Lead Engineering, Biophysical Characterization and Lead Development functions within Janssen BioTherapeutics (JBIO) to execute critical activities driving lead selection. Specifically, you will develop and execute methods to provide high quality purified therapeutic candidates, enabling robust biophysical characterization and in vivo studies. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, working with project teams to finalize lead candidates, understanding the key properties of diverse therapeutic molecules, establishing process and analytical characterization methods, working with development/manufacturing teams to optimize and transfer scalable protocols .

Essential Functions:

  • Proactively implement strategies using 'state-of-the-art' technologies and align with the project needs to ensure delivery of lead candidates in a timely fashion.
  • Bring to bear an in-depth understanding of protein expression, protein purification and characterization of current biotherapeutics are required
  • Leverage deep knowledge and hands-on-experience with versatile protein purification technologies using established chromatography, FPLC, and HPLC platforms and other analytical methods to ensure the highest quality therapeutic lead proteins.
  • Effectively and proactively collaborate with multidisciplinary scientists on an array of diverse projects to play an integral role on project and cross-functional teams.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of lead molecules with a focus on multi-specific modalities, and state of the art process technologies that drive effective lead candidate selection.
  • Proactively investigate and improve existing processes, implement new technologies.
  • Maintain accurate electronic laboratory notebooks and other records. Write technical reports, summaries, protocols, and manuscripts.

  • Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry or related field with post-doctoral training and 3+ years of experience is required.
  • Experience with protein purification and characterization combined with an excellent understanding of therapeutic proteins is required.
  • Experience with bispecific or multispecific antibodies, novel protein therapeutics, and antibody mechanisms of action is preferred.
  • Experience with AKTA systems, HPLC and Automation is preferred.

  • Qualified candidates will have good organization and communication skills, a desire to collaborate, and a demonstrated knowledge of scientific principles. But most importantly, as a superior candidate you will bring the ability to execute independently but thrive as a member of a high-performing team, and ultimately derive satisfaction from achieving collective success against aggressive metric-driven timelines.
