The Viral Biologics group within Infectious Diseases Discovery Biology in Janssen BioPharma Inc. is seeking an Associate Scientist II to join our efforts in the discovery of novel therapeutics and immunotherapeutics for viral pathogens.You will develop and conduct in vitro and in vivo studies to facilitate projection progression. As an Associate Scientist you will interact with external and internal colleagues as a key member of multidisciplinary team whose aim is to identify and validate novel therapies targeting viral pathogens.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct in vivo experiments including dosing, bleeding, tissue harvesting and isolation of immune cells from lymphoid and non-lymphoid tissues.
  • Culturing mammalian cells, including cell lines and primary cells
  • Functional characterization of T cells by ELISpot and intracellular cytokine staining
  • Perform immunoassays such as ELISA and molecular biology assays including qPCR and cloning
  • Designing, performing, and troubleshooting experiments
  • Recommend improvements to procedures and protocols, ensure equipment is in working order, maintain accurate records of all data and procedures
  • Work productively as a member of a discovery viral biologics team to support projects for novel antiviral biologics
  • Contribute to scientific reports, prepare presentations and share results and in a team-based environment.
Qualifications
  • A B.S. with at least 4 years of experience, or a M.S. with a least 3 years experience is required
  • Experience within the biopharmaceutical industry is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge and hands-on research experience in immunology/virology/molecular biology is required
  • Expertise in immune-related techniques, including immune cell isolation, cell line and primary cell culture, immune cell phenotyping and functional assays (ELISpot, ICS), and flow cytometry analysis is preferred
  • In vivo model working experience and proficiency in compound dosing, non-terminal blood collection, terminal tissue harvesting, processing and analysis is strongly preferred
  • Proficient in molecular biology assays including qPCR and cloning is strongly preferred
  • Advanced level ability to read, analyze and interpret data is required
  • Knowledge of and hands-on experience with monoclonal antibodies and bispecific antibodies is preferred
  • Eye for detail and able to work productively with project team members is required
  • Excellent social, organizational, verbal and written communication skills are required
  • This position is located in South San Francisco, CA and may require approximately 10% travel.
