Weapons Systems Model Based Systems Engineer
The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Model Based Systems Engineer.
Job Summary: Apply Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to develop system models, support the systems engineering process, and support the systems development, integration, analysis, and evaluation of large-scale weapon systems and payloads.
- Apply expertise in architecture and model-based systems engineering to the development and evaluation of complex strategic deterrent systems and supporting infrastructure. Develop and implement system models to support development and integration of new strategic deterrent systems as well as modernization and sustainment of existing systems. (70%)
- Apply systems engineering expertise focusing on requirements analysis, concept/technology development, risk assessments and test & evaluation of emerging systems for strategic deterrent missions. (20%)
- Deliver formal presentations to sponsors and supporting contractors, and effectively communicate proposed concepts/solutions and analysis results. Produce reports that capture concept definitions, requirements, analysis results, and technical recommendations. (10%)

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physics or related technical field, with three years of relevant work experience in systems engineering. One year of specific experience in system modeling using UML/SysML and associated modeling software. Broad system engineering experience including early concept development, requirements analysis, design, test and evaluation, and risk assessment. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong critical thinking skills. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with and lead diverse, multidisciplinary teams, including industry and government sponsors.
Desired Qualifications: Graduate degree in systems engineering. Relevant OMG certifications. Understanding of DoDAF. Familiarity with NoMagic MagicDraw modeling software. Experience applying aspects of MBSE in support of system development. Experience integrating physics-based models into a system model. Work experience with Air Force and Navy Strategic Programs or other DoD acquisition commands. U.S. Navy submarine operational knowledge. Knowledge of Trident II Strategic Weapon System. Experience in systems engineering for missile systems.
Special Working Conditions: Periodic, short duration visits to sponsor offices at the Washington Navy Yard and to supporting contractor sites. Occasional travel to other military bases across the country. (10%)
Security: Secret Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information up to the Secret level. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
