Weapons Control Engineer
Introduction: The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Weapons Control Engineer.
Job Summary: Analyze strategic weapon control systems, provide subject matter expertise and simulation requirements for the SWS Virtual Instructor Program (VIPr – training product which uses a three dimensional, first-person-shooter-style simulation to immerse warfighters in the tactical environment), and conceptualize weapon control systems for future payload and missile systems
- Analyze Navy and/or Air Force strategic weapon control systems, perform independent studies, and support test and evaluation. (35%)
- Perform concept, trade, and feasibility studies related to weapon control systems for potential future payloads and missiles. (35%)
- Perform investigations of strategic weapon control systems for inclusion in training systems. (15%)
- Provide requirements for strategic weapon control training simulator. (15%)

Required Qualifications: B. S. in electrical or mechanical engineering or other relevant technical discipline or equivalent level of relevant experience. At least 5 years of experience working with Navy or Air Force weapon control systems. Exceptionally strong interpersonal skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to interact effectively with individuals of different experience levels and backgrounds including sponsor, external industry, and military personnel.
Desired Qualifications: M. S. in electrical, mechanical engineering or relevant technical field. Ten years of experience working with Ohio Class submarine strategic fire control systems or Air Force Minuteman weapon control systems. Experience working with Strategic Systems Programs (SSP). USS Ohio Class patrol experience or Minuteman missile launch system working directly with the fire control / weapon control system.
Special Working Conditions: Occasional travel and trips to Washington Navy Yard.
Security: Top Secret Clearance is required. Applicants selectedwill be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet theeligibility requirements for access to classified information up to the TopSecret level. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship
