Systems Engineer

Introduction:

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Systems Engineer to participate in advanced radar, communications, and electronic warfare system development.

Job Summary:

Conduct concept development and functional analyses and modeling. Develop functional and physical architectures of software and hardware systems. Conduct performance analysis and effectiveness evaluation of sensor and communications systems.

Duties:

  • Conduct concept development and functional analyses and modeling. Use operational and functional models to develop system architectures, perform requirements analysis, and develop interface, integration, and functional requirements. Develop architectures using standard modeling languages such as UML and SysML (50%)
  • Coordinate with sensor and communications system subject matter experts to conduct performance analysis, evaluate system effecgtiveness, and influence system concepts and performance requirements. (40%)
  • Coordinate efforts with APL engineering staff, program management, and Government sponsors to prepare documentation in support of systems engineering technical reviews. (10%)

Required Qualifications:

BS degree in systems engineering, operations research, industrial systems engineering or information systems engineering. Alternatively a degree in math, physics, computer engineering, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering with demonstrated experience or successful coursework completion performing systems engineering tasks such as requirements analysis and development, functional analysis, systems analysis and/or design trade studies.Familiarity with structured and object-oriented analysis techniques and methods.

Candidate must be able to qualify for and retain a DoD security clearance at the Secret level.

Desired Qualifications:

MS degree in systems engineering with experience in the development of radar, communications, and/or networked command and control systems. Two to five years of experience with systems engineering. Familiarity with software tools such as DOORS, CORE, System Architect, or Enterprise Architect. Familiarity with architectural frameworks. Current active DoD security clearance.

Special Working Conditions:

Occasional travel to sponsor and contractor facilities.

Security:

Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
