If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL. We are seeking a highly motivated systems engineer to help us develop and evaluate complex weapons systems including missiles, re-entry vehicles, and munitions delivered from ground and airborne platforms. You will represent APL to provide direct systems engineering support to the sponsor and to coordinate engineering services with APL team members to serve the technical needs of the program.

As a Systems Engineer you will...

  • Develop systems engineering, integration, and test and evaluationprocesses and artifacts utilizing best practices. Design architecture and engineering models to instantiate and assess system configurations. Determine system requirements and perform analyses pertinent to total system effectiveness. Develop concepts of operations and risk assessments within the framework of current and projected threat environments.
  • Analyze and assess technologies pertinent to advanced strike weapon systems, with particular emphasis on military utility / feasibility and system functionality / interoperability with external systems.
  • Document analysis/engineering results, prepare reports, and establish material requirements for sponsors. This would include organizing the study team, ensuring quality of technical products and developing/delivering associated technical briefs.
  • Apply modeling, simulation and analytic techniques to the assessment of emerging technologies for application to strike warfare.
  • Work with industry, academic, and government laboratory staff to identify opportunities to apply promising emerging technologies to advanced weapon systems applications.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a B.S. degree in Operations Research/Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Physical Science or related field
  • Have a minimum of 15 years of professional experience related to military strike operations
  • Have general knowledge of military warfare systems including aircraft, weapons, sensors, communications networks and mission planning applications
  • Have strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills and ability to interact with sponsor representatives
  • Ability and willingness to travel to present work to customers, provide technical advice during new system development/system modifications, and support laboratory/field testing
  • Hold an active Secret security clearance and can ultimately obtain TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Can demonstrate that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...

  • Have a M.S. in Operations Research/Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Physical Science or related field
  • Have 20 plus years of professional experience related to military strike operations
  • Are a Fighter Weapons School or Weapons Tactics Instructor graduate with expert knowledge of aircraft, weapons systems and mission planning applications
  • Have knowledge of airborne and space-borne sensor systems and communications networks
  • Have knowledge of DoD Planning, Programming and Budgeting, Acquisition Decision, Research and Development, Test and Evaluation systems
  • Have demonstrated ability to interface effectively with government sponsors
  • Hold a current TS/SCI
