Surface Warfare Acoustic Intelligence Specialist
The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC. is seeking a Surface Warfare Acoustic Intelligence Specialist.
Job Summary: Apply acoustic analysis skills to perform operational and employment evaluation efforts for Navy surface ship sonar/combat systems. Evaluation efforts will be performed through detailed acoustic analysis, event reconstruction, and feedback to sponsor and Fleet users of at-sea testing and real world deployment data.
- Conduct detailed acoustic analysis and event reconstruction of Navy surface ship sonar and combat system testing. Assess developmental and fleet Sonar/Combat Systems at the operational system. Capabilities assessed may include acoustic and visual detection, tracking, tactical control and/or tactical decision and technologies and system functions supporting the Fleet. (35%)
- Interface with system developers, and analysis team members to determine analysis methodology, appropriate measures of performance and data required to execute analysis. (35%)
- Participate in planning and testing at developer or Fleet facilities in support of assessment of Navy Surface Sonar and Combat Systems. (20%)
- Prepare detailed briefings on analysis methodology and results. Brief results to sponsors and external organizations. (10%)

Required Qualifications: Extensive background in LOFAR and pulsed active sonar, ACINT Data Collection, event reconstruction and training associated with the detailed operational employment of Surface Warfare sonar systems and/or Surveillance sonar systems. Detailed knowledge in sonar signal processing and system employment. Excellent written, verbal and briefing skills. Willingness to participate in off-site Field Testing and be physically able to support at-sea test and evaluation.
Desired Qualifications: NEC 0416 (ACINT Specialist) qualifications and be Surface Warfare designated. Experience in evaluation of Fleet sonar performance. Demonstrated leadership capability.
Special Working Conditions: Travel to include meetings (typically less than 3 days per month). System Field Testing typically requires several weeks (non-continuous) of travel annually to system integrator site. Must be medically cleared and capable for work and travel on Navy ships in order to support at-sea testing and evaluation.
Security: Top Secret Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for an SSBI and access to classified information. Preference for current SSBI. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
