Strategic Deterrence Systems Engineer
The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Strategic Deterrence Systems Engineer.
Job Summary: Participate in a team environment to develop and assess requirements, create and modify analysis tools, analyze test data, perform trade studies, requirements analysis, functional analysis, and performance assessment for strategic weapons systems.
- Provide systems engineering expertise focusing on requirements analysis, concept/technology development, risk assessments and test & evaluation of emerging systems for strategic deterrent missions. (40%)
- Utilize tools to analyze weapon system capabilities and to assist in the development of future weapon system requirements. Participate in design and requirements documentation reviews. (30%).
- Provide subject matter expertise while conducting research, studies, and analysis on current and future weapons system capabilities and performance. Provide supporting data and associated recommendations to advise program sponsors (20%).
- Deliver formal presentations to sponsors and supporting contractors, and effectively communicate proposed concepts/solutions and analysis results. Produce reports that capture concept definitions, requirements, analysis results, and technical recommendations. (10%)

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, physics or related technical field, with three years of relevant work experience in systems engineering. Broad system engineering experience including early concept development, requirements analysis, design, test and evaluation, and risk assessment. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong critical thinking skills. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with and lead diverse, multidisciplinary teams, including industry and government sponsors.
Desired Qualifications: Graduate degree in systems engineering. Understanding of DoD acquisition and/or Strategic Systems acquisition processes. Familiarity with systems engineering software. Work experience with Air Force and Navy Strategic Programs or other DoD acquisition commands. U.S. Navy submarine operational knowledge. Knowledge of Trident II Strategic Weapon System. Experience in systems engineering for missile systems.
Special Working Conditions: Periodic, short duration visits to sponsor offices at the Washington Navy Yard and to supporting contractor sites. Occasional travel to other military bases across the country.
Security: Secret Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information up to the Secret level. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
