Software Engineer / Developer
The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Software Developer.
Seeking a creative systems or software developer with Python, Java, and/or C/C++ development experience in the Linux/UNIX software environment to develop and implement innovative solutions in information assurance for our nation's cyber defense. Duties (Listed in order of importance with the estimated amount of time spent at each task):
- Work within a team to design and develop innovative solutions that push the boundaries of applied computer science research in Information Assurance. (45%)
- Develop software at all levels of traditional and non-traditional Linux/UNIX-based computing and mobile platforms that combine hardware, hypervisor, operating system, and management software to provide real-world solutions to platform security problems. (45%)
- Share knowledge by clearly articulating ideas through papers and presentations to technical staff, management and Government decision makers. Take advantage of opportunities to participate in working groups, sponsor meetings, proposal writing, and conferences. (10%)

MS or PhD in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field or 5+ years of experience with systems programming with Python, C/C++ in a Linux or UNIX environment. Kernel-level development experience, as well as experience with virtualization systems such as VMWare, Xen and/or KVM is highly desirable. Experience and knowledge relating to cyber defense, cyber defense operations, cyber defensive products, information security, cyber security; and/or experience creating interface specifications. Active Secret clearance.
Security: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
